Forging a Brighter Future

正The 2021 Annual Conference of the Boao Forum for Asia(BFA) opened on April 20, with Chinese President Xi Jinping delivering a keynote speech via video link at the opening ceremony. In his speech, Xi called on all to pursue discussion on an equal footing to create a future of shared benefits, pursue openness and innovation to create a future of development and prosperity, pursue solidarity and cooperation to create a future of health and security, and fulfill their commitment to justice to create a future of mutual respect and learning.     

A Green Approach

On November 1, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a written statement to the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. He offered a three-point proposal, including upholding multilateral consensus, focusing on concrete actions and acceler-ating the green transition, with a view to offering Chinese experience and expertise to the global response to climate change.     

Dialogue,a Common Aspiration

Despite disruptions triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries has continued at an accelerated pace, former Chilean President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle said at the Fourth Dialogue Between the Civilizations of China and Latin America and the Caribbean on October 22. He was echoed by Ma Peihua, former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, who stressed that in a complex and volatile world, it is never a sustainable solution for countries to detach themselves from the interna-tional community. Developing countries, including China and LAC nations, need to work together, support one another, and conduct cooperation and exchanges.

The Natural Balance

In a tropical rainforest national park in Hainan Province, the macaques nimbly jump from branch to branch, and wild boars run amok while squir-rels and all kinds of birds happily frolic the day away. The conservation area is among China's for-mally established first batch of five national parks. During the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, President Xi Jinping announced on October 12 that China had officially designated its first group of national parks, covering more than 230,000 square km in total and protecting nearly 30 percent of the country's key wildlife species.

In his virtual meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden on November 16, President Xi Jinping, from the perspective of a commu-nity with a shared future for humanity, pointed out that China and the United States need to increase their communication and coopera-tion, tend to their domestic affairs and, at the same time, shoulder their share of international responsibilities, as well as work together to advance the noble cause of world peace and development. Xi also expressed his readiness to work with President Biden to build consensus and take active steps toward moving China-U.S.relations in a positive direction as doing so will advance the interests of both populations and meet the expectations of the international com-munity.
