The history and tradition of Quyi (storytelling with music and periormance) are among the longest and most profound of China's folk art forms. Having evolved over centuries and centuries from folk oral literature and singing, Quyi is the catch-all name of various "art forms of talking and singing" in China. PASSING for a member of the opposite sex is a tirelessly amusing trick celebrated in several art forms over many centuries and in many cultures. In 1998,Walt Disney Pictures made the animated film named Mulan based on a story from the Sui Dynasty(581-618) about a Chinese legendary heroine Hua Mulan.Mulan impersonated a man and took the place of her ill father in the ranks of the army fighting invaders from the north. For her bravery in assuming a male role, and the sacrifice she made for her father,Mulan has been honored in history. There are many such female heroines in Chinese history, fictitious and real, such as Fan Lihua of the Tang Dynasty(618-907) and Qin Liangyu of the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644) whose legends celebrate female ferocity and their awakening to inner strength and power.  相似文献

IT'S springtime in Hainan, literally in terms of the season, but also figuratively in terms of an ongoing era of rebirth for the tropical island. Hainan is China's southernmost territory, and the nation's smallest province in terms of land area. Size is no reflection of status, however. The island is famous as a holiday resort of azure skies, bright sunshine, fresh air and unspoiled beaches.  相似文献

During the visit, the group through contacting the Canadian friendship-with-China organizations enhanced mutual understanding, visited the birthplace of Doctor Norman Bethune and the cities where he had studied and worked, and had exchanges and sought cooperation with various sides of Canada for the activities to be held in 2009 in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the death of Dr. Bethune and the publication of Chairman Mao's article In Memory of Norman Bethune.  相似文献

Separated from the women's prison by only a wall is a big courtyard. It is a world of green. We were told that growing in the three hectare courtyard are more than 3,000 of tall trees and bushes in more than 100 species, 3,000 pots of plants, 4,000 square meters of vegetative cover and nearly 10,000 square meters of flower beds, and lawns. There is also a rockery and a fall and more than 700 square meters of roof garden. No one could associate the place with the word "prison." But it is a prison-a prison or reform school for educating and correcting juvenile delinquents.  相似文献

MA'ANSHAN, in eastern Anhui Province, is an iron and steel industry based city that has developed since the founding of new China. Ma'anshan is not one of Anhui's largest cities, as regards territory, population, and aggregate economy, yet its per capita major economic indexes have ranked first in the province for successive years. China's huge population dilutes per capita resources, so integrated and coordinated development of the regional economy is vital. Nanjing, capital city of neighboring Jiangsu Province, is just a 30-minute drive away, which has prompted Ma'anshan to take the initiative of merging into the Nanjing Megalopolis* and the Yangtze River Delta Economic Belt* (*see the reference box at the end of the article).  相似文献
