We are often told that online gaming causes people to spend valuable time in front of computers at the expense of work and school, and that it isolates them from human companionships. As a fan of online games,I think this is unwarranted prejudice. Playing online games is in fact a less solitary activity than most people think. Games nowadays differ from those of the past, when each player played one person at a time. Many are now multiplayer games where players are encouraged to interact. I often socialize with other video game fans through the Internet. In my opinion,multi-player type online games do  相似文献

Blind advisor makes proposals online Fuzhou, Jan. 10-Xia Rongqiang, the first blind member of the advisory body to east China's Fujian Province, submitted a proposal via the Internet urging more budget for blind people's education. Xia is a member of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. For the first time online submission of proposals to the committee's upcoming annual session was allowed, and Xia's bill marked the first of such submission. Xia said his election to the committee showed that disabled people in China enjoyed equal rights on discussing political affairs. Xia is principal of a blind school in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian, which is affiliated to the Hadley School for the Blind, an institute aiming to help educate the blind internationally. The Hadley School has branches in more than 100 countries and regions all over the world, but Xia's school is the only one in China and Asia.  相似文献

OPINION Online Opinion or Public Opinion? China's cyberspace was stirred up recently by a statement made by Fan Gang, a famed Chinese economist. "The majority of farmers and migrant workers don't surf the Internet, so the opinion of netizens doesn't equal the opinion of the general public...online opinions shouldn't drive government decision-making," Fan said. China has more than 100 million netizens of its total population of 1.3 billion, and what can be closer to the public opinion in the country than the voices of 100 million people? Besides, many of these people have friends or relatives who are farmers and migrant workers. So far, many of the online opinions, such as those against corruption or seeking social justice, are expressed not only on behalf of netizens but also for the farmers and migrant workers who can't make their voices heard because they don't surf the net. The Internet is a new platform for people to express themselves. On this point, the Internet has much merit, and so do China's netizens. Online opinions may be references for government decision-making, but in fact, no government would design policy simply by following the public opinion. Decision-making is a scientific process and listening to online opinions is only one way to hear all parties. People's Daily Hua Dong News  相似文献

I came across an album of photos put online by a charity group last year and was appalled by the inhumane condition of some of the poorest in this country. It is hard to believe that in a time when I and people around me complain about bad traffic or plan summer vaca- tions in Europe for our kids, some people deep in the mountains of Guizhou Province are still struggling to fill their stomachs and their children  相似文献

Blogs empower ordinary people by letting them disseminate information via the Internet The Canadian science fiction writer William Gibson predicted in 1996 that everyone would one day express his or her ideas via the Internet. In reality the real vitality of Internet expression today exists at the grass- roots level, and professional Internet writers sprout from ordinary netizens. At the center of it all the blog serves a haven for this new and growing online culture.  相似文献

In whatever country and for whatever period of human history, it is those lofty aspirations cherished by the human race that have motivated people to go in for charity. The Chinese culture that dates back to thousands of years ago has always called for charity. Numerous ancient maxims testify to this established fact—"extending the same care you give your own elders and children to others' elders and children," "helping a needy person on hand is worthier than worshipping a god in a faraway land,"  相似文献

Wang Lijun is coming for you. IN Western media, Chinese police officers generally get bad press. Tales of torture, intimidation and miscarriages of justice frequently appear in news bulletins and RSS feeds. But if the chief of police in Jinzhou, a city in Northeast China's Liaoning Province, has his way, all that is about to change. Wang Lijun is using his considerable experience and knowledge in the field to train his charges in a whole new way. He hopes the results can serve as a model for the entire country. The police have perhaps never before been under as intense scrutiny as they are in this age of information and camera-equipped mobile phones. These days the public pays much more attention to their actions. So eliminating corruption from the force - a difficult job in any country - seemed to Wang Lijun a good place to start, and he says he's personally overseeing that task. He's revamped the complaints department - notorious wastes of space in China - and personally interviews local citizens that have complaints against the cops. He says he has done this 700 times in the three and a half years since the new system was put in place, and 95 percent of the complaints were satisfactorily resolved.  相似文献
