Identifying deviant sexual interest in a sex offender sample using dual-target rapid serial visual presentation task

To investigate the dual-target rapid serial visual presentation (dtRSVP) task as a measure of deviant sexual interest (i.e. a sexual interest in children), we administered a dtRSVP with gender- and age-specific pictorial stimuli to child sex offenders (n = 69), other sex offenders (n = 43), non-sex offenders (n = 14), and community controls (n = 88). We hypothesized that (1) stimuli belonging to the preferred gender and age group presented as targets (both T1 and the subsequent T2) in the serial sequence would be more accurately detected than non-preferred stimuli and that (2) this increased detection would reduce the detection of targets later in the serial sequence (T2) due to an attentional blink. Our findings supported hypothesis 1 and partly supported hypothesis 2. Although we found group differences, individual indices based on detection rates did not allow for individual-level diagnostic categorization of participants.     

How fear of crime affects punitive attitudes

This article investigates different types of fear of crime as predictors for punitive attitudes. Using data from a Germany-wide representative survey (n = 1272) it examines the reliability and validity of survey instruments through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and uses structural equation modeling (SEM) to explain variations in the level of respondents’ punitive attitudes. The results show that different emotional and cognitive responses to crime have a distinctive effect on the formation of punitive attitudes. These effects vary significantly depending on socio-demographic factors and assumed purposes of punishment. A crucial observation of the study is that men’s fear of crime works in a different way in the formation of punitive attitudes than women’s fear of crime. The perceived locus of control for the crime threat is a possible explanation for this difference.

Der vorliegende Beitrag versucht, die Bedeutung eines "genossenschaftlichen Gleichbehandlungsgebotes" im Rahmen der Wohnungsgemeinnützigkeit im Allgemeinen sowie im Hinblick auf offene Fragen rund um die nachtr?gliche Wohnungseigentumsbegründung an gemeinnützigen Mietwohnungen und bei "Durchbrechungen" des gemeinnützigkeitsrechtlichen Kostendeckungsprinzips im Speziellen zu erhellen.     

Das österreichische Geschäftsraummietrecht im europäischen Rechtsvergleich

Seit Jahren kommt die Rechtspolitik bezüglich einer Neuregelung grundlegender Strukturfragen des ?sterreichischen Mietrechts nicht vom Fleck. Dies mag unter anderem daran liegen, dass die einschl?gigen Reformdiskussionen ausschlie?lich aus innerstaatlicher Perspektive geführt werden, was es zwangsl?ufig mit sich bringt, dass keinem der in ihren (scheinbar) altbew?hrten Schützengr?ben eingebunkerten Interessenvertreter der entscheidende rechtspolitische Durchbruch gelingt. Bei diesem Stand der Dinge scheint es reizvoll, den Horizont zu erweitern und Reformfragen das ?sterreichische Mietrecht betreffend aus rechtsvergleichender Perspektive zu beleuchten. Es scheint ja zumindest nicht v?llig ausgeschlossen, dass uU europaweit einheitlich nachweisbare Tendenzen in der Mietrechtsgesetzgebung auch den heimischen Gesetzgeber zu beeindrucken verm?gen. Ausgehend von diesem Zugang wird im Folgenden untersucht, welcher Grad an übereinstimmung zwischen dem ?sterreichischen Gesch?ftsraummietrecht einerseits und jenem, das in anderen europ?ischen L?ndern derzeit Geltung hat, andererseits besteht.     

Trafficking in persons and victim health in Australia

This article explores the health problems experienced by victims of trafficking in persons in Australia and analyses the domestic support schemes established to assist these victims. It focuses specifically on the health of adult, female victims who constitute the majority of identified victims, and who are the principal recipients of government support services. Domestic experiences and support schemes are reviewed in the light of international law and best practice guidelines. Recommendations are made to improve the health services available to victims of trafficking in persons in Australia.     

Fatal MDMA-intoxication with postmortem diagnosis of hyperthermia

Hyperthermia is one of the main symptoms of the toxic MDMA effect. In a fatal intoxication, the premortal increase in body temperature may lead to a false assessment of the time of death. The problems of drug-induced hyperthermia faced by forensic pathologists and criminal investigators are discussed on the basis of a death from the autopsy material of the Berlin Institute of Legal Medicine (CCM).
