Trump the antisemantic,and the boundaries of populism

ABSTRACT

In this article I consider Donald Trump as an “antisemantic” president, and link antisemanticism to broader forms of populism. Drawing on Stuart Hall’s analysis of Thatcherism, I explore the political and discursive domains as intrinsically linked in the Trumpian moment. Second, I turn to a theory of the antisemantic, showing its difference from the Orwellian universe. Where the Orwellian model depends on the inversion of meanings, the Trumpian paradigm (“Truth isn’t truth”) attacks the foundations of meaning itself. In the Trumpian age the internet also acts as a dark multiplier, thinning out meaning through its distortions and profusion. As counterpart to these patterns, I show how the antisemantic rests on certain symbolic fixities, especially around boundaries and the “uber” symbol of the wall. I end with some notes on how to reconstruct a sense of accountability in meaning, and to think of boundaries that are transitive and generative rather than singular and walled.

Plagiarism litigation trends in the USA and Australia

In this article we explore the increasing complexity of plagiarism litigation in the USA and Australia. Plagiarism has always been a serious academic issue and academic staff and students have wrestled with its definition and appropriate penalties for some time. However, the advent of the Internet and more freely accessible information resources, along with busy lives and pressures to succeed, may be leading to more frequent incidents of plagiarism. Alternatively, the same information resources and software packages may mean that we are now more able to identify when plagiarism occurs. The following discussion explores not just the traditional issues that have arisen with respect to plagiarism, but also the extended contexts in which plagiarism discussion is taking place in courtrooms, not university staffrooms. We consider issues in common in the two nations, as well as the wider academic community, and distinctive areas of litigation that have arisen in the USA and Australia.     

数字图书馆版权问题解读：资源·传播·服务

随着互联网延伸广度和深度的不断发展，数字图书馆版权纠纷案件日益增多。文献数字化、数据库建设、网络传播、网络信息链接、下载、检索等各方面都涉及到版权问题。这些问题可以归结到三个方面：资源建设中的版权问题、信息传播中的版权问题和信息服务中的版权问题。我们应加强版权适度保护，推行公益性图书馆网络传播豁免权，健全著作权集体管理制度，完善相关法律规范。     

Here be monsters: a choreomaniac's companion to the danse macabre

Consider this a vade mecum: an invitation to “walk with me” through more or less uncanny terrains of worlds in the making in search, of(f) course, of monsters. The search will be delving into the areas of “creepypasta:” pieces of cursed prose and pictures that circulate online, waiting to contaminate and possess the next reader. Using a theoretical framework of posthuman and feminist theory, not least the work done by Jacques Derrida and Donna Haraway, this vade mecum asks what it might mean to engage ethically with that which is not supposed to exist, but which haunts us nonetheless. In other words: what does it mean to move, live and engage with spectres in digital times?     

论网络服务提供者的版权侵权责任

网络版权侵权现象目前发生得非常普遍，针对这一问题，我国进行了相关的专门立法活动。但是，如何从根本上理清网络服务提供者的侵权责任，仍是一个非常值得研究的问题。笔者对网络服务提供者的概念和范围重新加以梳理，根据网络版权法律关系的要求，辩明了各种网络服务提供者的基本属性，明确了网络服务提供者的法律地位，并为实现网络版权侵权责任的明晰化，创见性地将网络服务提供者划分为网络技术服务提供者和网络作品传播者，分别阐述其应该各自承担的版权侵权责任。
