Penetrating abdominal injury is often a life-threatening condition, which is mainly associated with inflicted injuries. Fatal self-inflicted sharp force abdominal injuries too have been reported in the literature. Inadvertent penetrating abdominal injuries are a rarity and are caused by sharp objects of low-velocity and often nonmissile-type. A 27-year-old male factory worker was brought dead to the emergency department with an alleged history of sustaining abdominal injury by a sharp metal projectile while working on a metal cutting grinder. Autopsy observations were consistent with the history of inadvertent penetrating injury. Our case reports a fatal missile-type inadvertent sharp force trauma over the abdomen with intestinal perforation, a relatively uncommon scenario in occupational/workplace settings. The present case report describes the significance of the death scene visit and corroborating the medical findings with investigating agencies. This case further emphasizes on the need for adopting proper safety measures at the workplace.  相似文献

The utility of both local governments and community‐based organisations can be considerably enhanced when these agencies work in partnership with one another. Different roles will be played by local governments and community organisations in different types of partnership arrangements. Distinguishing among these roles helps allocate responsibilities better among the partner agencies, and it is also helpful for scheduling implementation, devising appropriate capacity building programmes and designing suitable accountability mechanisms. Measuring civil society strength has become entangled in competing definitions of civil society (CS). A more productive approach begins by considering CS from the perspective not of what it is but from what it does. Civil society functions—articulating citizens' interests and demands, defending their rights and meeting their needs—can be performed by a variety of institutions and organisations, not all of which are or need to be detached from the government. Determining the strength of CS requires assessing how well these functions are performed by a continuum of organisations and institutions. About 90 countries have adopted Freedom of Information (FOI) laws with the objective of facilitating citizens’ right to access information on government activities expeditiously. It is argued that FOI laws increase transparency and fix accountability of the government. We provide quantitative evidence on the impact of FOI laws on perceived government corruption. Using panel data for 132 countries over the 1990–2011 period, we find that adopting FOI laws after controlling for self-section bias, is associated with an increase in perceived government corruption driven by an increase in detection of corrupt acts. In fact, FOI laws appear to increase the perception of government corruption if combined with a higher degree of media freedom, presence of NGO activism and political competition. However, the perception of government corruption tends to decline with the duration of FOI law adoption. These findings are robust to controlling for endogeneity using instrumental variables, alternative samples and estimation methods.  相似文献

We are trapped in a transition: between the formation of the new and the erosion of the old norms, values and systems. In many important meetings, where major questions of life and death are examined; where the North-South postures are taken; where agenda items on ECDC, TCDC and LDCs are analysed; where monetary reforms are advocated; where food strategies are formulated—the ‘women's dimension’ still often faces those with ‘intellectual’ difficulties in considering it a legitimate subject in its own right. Why is it necessary to climb the same steep mountains over and over again? What are the deeply rooted reasons which prevent ‘women's issues’ being considered an integral part of development questions? Why are the doors behind which the major questions of this century are being debated soundproof, heavy and hermetically sealed? The collective voices of women do not yet appear to penetrate them. This global resistance, which effectively excludes women at so many levels, from international and national to community and the family, has deep roots—roots which are buried in the inner conscience of mankind. And strands of these roots are intertwined with every discipline; in every human science. Where does one begin?The purpose of this paper is to explore some aspects of economic and social development which have a direct bearing on the problems of working women and international issues.  相似文献

The current study presents a quantitative investigation of the literature on political marketing using a bibliometric approach. This study has analyzed 214 documents collected from the Web of Science database for the period between 1996 and 2018 using VOSviewer software and bibliometrix R package. Based on the insights gained from the analysis, the authors discuss the structural characteristics of various scientific agents involved in the publication process. The results of this study indicate that the literature on political marketing is highly fragmented and is still in its nascent stages. It further stresses the need to improve collaboration among researchers and promote this discipline within the research community.  相似文献
