TOURISM VISITATION OF YANKARI AND CROSS RIVER NATIONAL PARKS BY LOCAL AND FOREIGN STATUSES-IMPLICATIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF INTERNATIONAL TOURISM IN NIGERIA

Development of sustainable tourism constitutes an essential part of Nigeria＇s agenda for attaining sustainable development by the year 2020. Tourism is expected to diversify the economy away from the oil sector, and play a vital role in the economy in the areas of environmental conservation, employment creation, and foreign exchange generation. The present study examines utilization of two Nigerian national parks - Yankari National Park （YNP） and Cross River National Park （CRNP） - along local and foreign lines over the period 2002 - 2006 to assess the potential contribution of foreign tourism to the national economy.     

Woman to woman marriage and cognates in Nigerian law: an easy coalition between customary law and human rights

This article argues that when conceived as an adoption mechanism rather than a marriage simpliciter, the woman to woman marriage common in parts of Nigeria becomes juridically explicable, and with it, several other cognate customary law arrangements which have proved challenging to scholars and adjudicators historically as well as in recent appellate court jurisprudence. Thus reconceived, the woman to woman marriage and its cognates assail the negative appellate court jurisprudence thereon and their ramifications become amenable to exposition in ways that evince the genius of the arrangement and its designers’ ingenuity.

Bourgeoisies Against Peasants： An Empirical Study of Evwerem and Otu-Jeremi Conflicts in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria

The Niger Delta region constitutes a number of ethnic nationalities which are rich in natural resources mainly in oil and gas reserves. However, the region has suffered extreme marginalization and neglect over the years despite its major contribution to the nation economy leading to agitations for better living standards by the people. The agitations have transformed from peaceful talks and dialogue to violence, unrest and chaos resulting to huge losses to the region and affecting the development process of the nation at large. This study examined the effect of the Niger Delta crisis on Evwreni and Otu-jeremi communities in Delta State. Data was collected through the administration of questionnaires, conduct of interviews, and consultation of books and relevant documents. The data analysed revealed that the Niger Delta crisis has affected job creation, infrastructure provision and maintenance as well as increased criminal activities in the areas. Finally, the researchers recommended diversification of the economy, job creation and training programmes, strengthening of security measures, provision of basic amenities amongst others as a solution to the crisis in the region.     

Public Service Recruitment Practices and Implications for Sustainable Development in Ebonyi State,Nigeria

ABSTRACT

Despite several reforms in Ebonyi public service, little or no indices of sustainable development has been recorded in decades. This study aims at examining the aspect of recruitment processes and how guaranteed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) attainment is affected. The findings drawn from three different ministries in Ebonyi State Civil Service (EBSCS) reveal that the processes of recruitment are characterized by nepotism, political interference devoid of merit, and professionalism. This implies that guaranteed sustainable development in Ebonyi state is at risk of attainment. This conclusion proves the relationship between Public Service Recruitment (PSR) processes and development. In view of the above, it argues that a new PSR reform should be instituted if the country is to achieve the targets set in the SDGs. This is hoped to promote accountability, transparency, and sound administrative governance in the public sector.
