ABSTRACTPreparing social workers for child welfare practice with the complexly traumatized children now in the system has created the need for schools of social work to integrate trauma content into the curriculum. This article presents findings of an evaluation of a child welfare course designed to prepare MSW level trauma-informed child welfare practitioners. Findings indicate that students in 29 schools of social work not only significantly increased their confidence in working with traumatized children and families but also are significantly more prepared to work toward these three child welfare goals of safety, permanency, and well-being. 相似文献

This study explores patterns of victimization and coping in a conservative Christian denomination. Four types of coping behaviors
are identified: informal coping, professional help-seeking, negative coping and crisis outreach. While religious behaviors
are less influential than expected for this particular population, current victimization and childhood victimization play
a significant role in establishing a model of coping and help-seeking for intimate partner violence (IPV) survivors in faith
communities. Childhood victimization acts as an aggravating factor, predicting negative coping with IPV. At the same time,
childhood victimization significantly increases the likelihood of seeking professional help. The study adds to the body of
knowledge by contributing to a better understanding of the impact of childhood victimization on coping and help-seeking. 相似文献

Octavia Butler's 1979 novel, Kindred, is a postmodern slave narrative that redefines the previous literary constructions of slavery in the United States. Through its rejection of the nineteenth century slave narrative and sentimental novel, Kindred highlights the main problem with nineteenth century narrative empathy: Forging an intimate identification between reader and character to enact empathy is founded through the representation of bodies in pain. In place of this identification tactic, Kindred reveals a new critical apparatus, essential for a mobilization of empathy centered on understanding both history and the process of historical recuperation. This investigation of empathy sheds light on the problematic construction of the early liberal human rights model across the Americas, a model centered on promoting identification with the suffering other. 相似文献

This paper discusses changes and new directions in the gendered nature of the welfare state in three post-state socialist societies: Hungary, Poland and Romania. Relying on an analysis of laws and regulations passed after 1989 concerning child care, maternity and parental leave, family support, unemployment and labor market policies, retirement and abortion laws, the authors identify the differences and the similarities among the three countries, pointing out not only their status in 2001, but also their trajectory, the dynamics and timing of their change. The authors argue that there are essential differences between the three countries in terms of women’s relationship to the welfare state. They also specify some of the key historical and social variables which might explain variation across countries. 相似文献
