The population of China and its development

The author reviews trends in population dynamics in China. Aspects considered include socioeconomic development and population growth; the government's focus on population and development problems and its fundamental strategy; population policies and goals; family planning and protection of maternal-child health; and demographic opportunities and challenges for China in the 1990s.
