Syllabi for a course on the history and society of traditional China

Abstract

For me, organizing and teaching an exciting course on either 19th or 20th century China is a piece of cake. The possible reading assignments are numerous and lively. The subjects for discussion leap off the pages. The students feel an immediate—even envious—relationship with the participants in the history.
