Nizhny Novgorod Region:analysis of a political situation and prospects of development of the region

The Nizhny Novgorod Oblast used to be the forefront and synonym of Russia’s reforms, and accordingly had a special position in Russia’s political and economic landscape. At present, this oblast is the administrative center of the Volga Federal District, whose political and economic process deserves attention. From the perspective of the relationship between the central government and the local government, Moscow has successfully regulated the political process of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, and the local government also relies on both political and financial support of the central government. According to the internal political development of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, all previous governors have been faced with similar complex situation: related stakeholders such as the Central government, the President’s plenipotentiary representative to the Volga Federal District, local political and economic elites, large-scale enterprises at the federal level, local businesses, they compete against each other.
