简论近代菲律宾传教士的成长及其意义

推动传教士的本土化,是近代天主教东传运动的一个重要内容。但在西班牙殖民统治时期的菲律宾,菲律宾传教士的成长却因西班牙传教团的重重阻碍而经历了漫长的过程。近代菲律宾本土教士的成长在菲律宾历史上占有重要意义,它不仅推动了天主教的本土化,为“教区菲化运动”奠定了基础,更重要的是,菲律宾传教士的成长对推动近代菲律宾民族意识的觉醒有着重要的影响。

Modern Growth of Filipino Priests and Its Significance

This paper examines briefly the growth history of Filipino priests in the Spanish colonial era, pointing out that while opposed by Spanish friars, but as the main part of Catholic Mission to the East, and promoted by the need of dissemination of Catholicism in the Philippine islands where lack of enough Spanish friars, Filipino priest has still developed to some extent before the end of 19th century. The growth of Filipino priests not only promoted the indigenization of Catholic priests, but also promoted the secularization of parishes in the Philippines and the growth of Filipino national consciousness.
