Secret Societies and the Traditional Social Structure of the Han People

This paper, from the perspective of sociology and anthropology, studies the traditional Chinese secret societies in a context involving the country's social structure, cultural tradition, regulations and group sense. Further, it explores the formation and development of these societies in the spheres of politics, economics, military affairs, culture, religion, patriarchal clans and population. Finally, the paper investigates the societies' structures, types, characteristics and functions so as to find their intrinsic relationship with the traditional social structure of the Han people.
