地名“台湾”的产生与确立

中国早期典籍中对台湾的命名经过长期的演变过程。明朝后期，闽南移民在台湾一鲲膀岛把当地先住民对岛的读音译成汉字读音，有大员、台湾、台窝湾、大湾、埋冤等，由于一鲲鲭岛是早期大陆移民登陆台湾最早、最频繁的地点，所以人们认定登陆的地名为台湾。然而直到清朝统一台湾后，地名“台湾”的地域内涵才正式确立。从历史上看，台湾作为台湾省的地名，有多种文化成分，其中闽南文化最为重要。
