| Abstract: | After a comprehensive probing on the sentence as viewed from the perspective of generative transformation and function, this paper concludes that sentential message could be better understood at the level of deep structure. But a better grasp of the mechanisms of intra-and inter-languages transformation should be based on the semantic functions of sentence elements. And therefore a new approach to English-Chinese translation is introduced and illustrated in this essay, which is described as a deep structure-based dynamically segmental translation. |
