| Abstract: | Singapore is an important area of the Chinese Secret Societies＇ activities in the 19th-century Southeast Asia.This paper makes a case study of Tan Seng Poh,a major opium farmer in Singapore,by which the author trys to analyse the role the Chinese Secret Societies play in the opium tax farming in Strait Settlements. |
