Effect of Jiawei Shenling Baizhu Powder on Gastric Function Parameters in Patients Undergoing Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis

Objective To investigate the effect of Jiawei Shenling Baizhu Powder on gastric function parameters in patients with the syndrome of spleen deficiency with stasis and dampness undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis(CAPD).Methods A total of 66 CAPD patients with the syndrome of spleen deficiency with stasis and dampness were randomly divided into control group and observation group,with 33 patients in each group;6 patients withdrew from the observation during the course of treatment,and 60 patients actually completed the treatment.Both groups were given CAPD and conventional symptomatic treatment;the patients in the control group were given oral compoundα-ketoacid tablets,and those in the observation group were given Jiawei Shenling Baizhu Powder in addition to the treatment in the control group,with a course of treatment of 12 weeks for both groups.The change in reflux diagnostic questionnaire(RDQ)score was observed after treatment;the serum levels of gastrin-17(G-17),pepsinogenⅠ(PGⅠ),pepsinogenⅡ(PGⅡ),PGⅠ/PGⅡ,prealbumin(PA),transferrin(TRF),and albumin(Alb)were measured before and after treatment;blood urea clear index(Kt/V)of peritoneal dialysis was measured and calculated to evaluate the adequacy of peritoneal dialysis.Results The observation group had a significantly better treatment outcome of TCM syndrome than the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,both groups had significant reductions in the serum levels of G-17,PGⅠ,and PGⅡ(P<0.05),and the observation group had significantly greater reductions than the control group(P<0.05).At the end of weeks 3,6,9,and 12 of treatment,both groups had a significant reduction in RDQ score(P<0.05),and the observation group had a significantly lower RDQ score than the control group at the end of weeks 9 and 12 of treatment(P<0.05).After treatment,the control group had significant increases in the serum levels of PA and Alb(P<0.05)and the observation group had significant increases in the serum levels of TRF,PA,and Alb and Kt/V(P<0.05);the treatment group had significantly higher levels of these indices than the control group at the corresponding time point(P<0.05).Conclusion For CAPD patients with the syndrome of spleen deficiency with stasis and dampness,Jiawei Shenling Baizhu Powder can improve their gastric function parameters and nutritional level.
