Foreign Investment Invitation and Domestic Consumption:Reflection on the Suzhou Style Development

The Suzhou Style development,heavily depending on foreign investments,has made significant contribution to the economic growth,whose success has triggered a spate of interregional competition for the foreign capitals.However,such kind of development mode results in the insufficient domestic consumption.The per capita consumption expense of Suzhou residents accounts for an obvious low proportion to the per capita disposable income as well as per capita GDP.This means that the economic development via foreign investment invitation may lead to the insufficiency of household consumption and bring about negative impacts on the expansion of domestic demands.The authors give a thorough analysis on this issue and put forward the relevant policy proposals.
