Philosophical Reflection on the Death of Socrates

Starting with the death of Socrates,this paper discusses the nature of philosophy,the philosophical mission and the development of philosophy.The death of Socrates is of great significance in the history of Western philosophy.Three reasons led to the death of Socrates: prosecution,politics and philosophical character,of which Socrates philosophical character,namely so-called gadfly spirit,was the realest reason.Socrates’ all life represents three missions of philosophy: to seek the good,to teach the method and to criticize.These three philosophical missions are the foundation for its survival,the source of its strength and the cornerstone for its development.At the same time,they also are the survival and development road that Socrates pointed out for the present and even future at the expense of his death.
