General Theories of Baudrillard' s Critique of the Political Economy of the Sign

Critique of the political economy of the sign is a key part of Baudrillard' s early theories and a theoretic platform to analyze the consuming society as well. He holds that the difference between use value and exchange value has a theoretic homogeneity with that of signifier and signified of the sign, which is a prerequisite to the legality of modern capitalism in the consuming society. Therefore, only by developing Marx' s critique of the political economy into that of the political economy of the sign, can the formation of the ideology in consumption be exposed. That' s also why Baudrillard left Marx and turned to post -Marxism after he wrote Mirror of Production.
