The "Rich Men" and their Relief Supplies in the Song Dynasty

The Song Dynasty was a period in ancient China when quite a few relief supplies were provided, of which the rich men's involvement was quite conspicuous. Besides providing many supplies, the rich men were also a great help to stabilizing prices, making proper arrangements for the victims of the calamity and for the material supplies. Though willingly or unwillingly, their involvement in the relief work proves that they were playing a key role in the social and economic life in the Song Dynasty. These rich men, a stable middle class in that changing society, exerted great and far-reaching influence on the development of China in that historical period.
