The American writer Hawthorne’s important short novel,"The Minister’s Black Veil",by describing Hooper priest who covers up his evil by wearing the black veil and all the reactions to the black veil of Christians,told the readers that everyone has the idea of sin,impulse of crime and unknown dark secret,even if "holy priest",which is the dark side of human nature.This paper discussed the reasons of the distorted human nature from the aspects of social and historical background,symbolism and romanticism,hoping to draw people’s attention to themselves and the human nature on a deeper level.
