Marxist outlook on women has provided the basic concept for the buildup of the basic theories of Chinese women's studies, which reveal women's nature, characteristics, existence and law of development. Chinese women's studies must make innovations in the 21st century; adhere to dialectics and the materialist conception of history and explore, on the theoretical plane, the new problems confronting presentday Chinese women's existence and development; and absorb and draw on the academic achievements of foreign women' s studies, especially the Marxist feminist theories of the West.
