性别社会化是男女在社会的变迁中不断被分离、男女差别不断被人为强化和扩大的过程,性别角色就是在社会化过程中逐渐形成的。《仪礼》的相关仪式是社会对性别角色的认可和规定,鼓励的是男女有别,具体表现为对男外女内、男主女从、男尊女卑等性别关系的社会定位,这些礼节仪式是社会控制的重要手段。

Gender Socialization As Seen from the Book Ceremony and Ritual

Gender socialization is a process in which men and women are constantly separated and the differences between them are constantly artificially intensified and widened in the course of social changes; and it is precisely in the course of the socialization that gender role has gradually taken shape. The relevant etiquettes contained in Ceremony and Ritual were a confirmation and provision of gender role by the general public and an advocacy of difference between the sexes. Manifestations of this included men being responsible for external affairs and women for internal affairs, men playing the principal role and women the supporting role, men being superior to women, and so on and so forth. These etiquettes are important means of social control.
