On the whole, the cultural identities of the Baima Lake writers were constructive. Different from the then dominant practice of "establishment by destruction," they indoctrinated the young scholars with a new cultural idea and sense originated from their solid studies rather than reflecting and criticizing the merits or defects of the Western cultures.
