The paper compares the alliance behavior of China and Japan through analyzing alliance structure and culture factor in the context of diverging national developmental experiences.Every alliance binds two sovereign but unequal partners,and they have also been asymmetrical and hierarchical alliance.Both countries have had few true alliances.They have had "thick" alliances freighted with heavy expectations and exploited to the full,not only for national defense,but also for political and economic development.
