Chinese Political Culture and Scholarship on the Malay World

The central fact about China and the Malay World is that they had maintained at least fifteen hundred years of good if erratic trading relations, followed by a century of distrust, and distance. The changes in political culture both in China and in the various Malay polities dominated such change in their relations, which was reflected in Chinese scholarship. Perhaps we can hope that, under new terms and conditions, China and the Malay world will find a fresh start to re-build a lasting and stable relationship.
