The Aging Game

Zhang Hao is a 70-year-old retired nurse. Since her husband passed away six years ago, she has lived alone in a 130-square-meter apartment in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province. There's a saying in China that people should "bring up sons to support parents in their old age," but in Zhang's case her chil-dren are too busy with life and work. "I can't count on them to take care of me 24/7 since they have their own lives," Zhang said. "Sometimes, especialy at night when I can't sleep, I worry that I might die alone without anyone noticing."     

The Thorny Issue of Pre-Affluence Aging

One of the internationally recognized benchmarks of an aging nation is when 10 percent of the population is above the age of 60. That China is an aging country is confirmed by 2005 statistics, which place 144 million Chinese citizens – 11 percent of the national population – in the over-60 age bracket.

目前,由于经济增长、社会发展和计划生育政策的共同作用,我国出现了低生育率和低死亡率共存的人口老龄化发展趋势.据预测,"十二五"时期,我国60岁以上老年人口将突破2亿,65岁以上老年人口比重将达到10%.老年人口增长幅度的加快,将给我国劳动力市场的供需结构、劳动力流动、劳动力参与丰产生深刻的影响.本文以劳动经济学为视角,具体分析我国老龄化发展对劳动力市场的影响,并提出相应政策建议.

超老龄社会中的日本女性再就业问题

目前,日本是世界上老龄化最严重的国家之一。超老龄社会虽然会加重女性的赡养负担,但同时也为女性尤其是已婚育女性提供了更多就业及再就业的可能。女性的再就业人口、劳动力率、就业形态以及就业结构等亦因此发生了很大改变。但日本女性的劳动参与程度仍处于世界较低水平,日本的传统性别分工意识、劳动雇用制度以及职场待遇差距均成为女性再就业的阻碍。
