GIVEN the Chinese governmem's determination to stimulate industrial and urban development during the past 50 years, policymakers now look to improve rural conditions. Although the central government has made efforts to redress the situation in recent years, implementation of relevant policies has been slow. In 2004, the government put forth a series of agricultural reform measures concerning rural taxation, domicile status and land, which was seen as a demonstration of the new leadership's resolve to tackle rural problems. Some policy watchers likened the year 2004 to a "second spring" for rural China. In February. the central government's first policyfor 2004 addressed increasing farmer income. During  相似文献

I can easily feel the increasing attention the world now pays to China at recent international meetings I have attended. My foreign peers all show an interest in China's blueprint for the comprehensively deepened reforms laid out at the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, eager to know what will happen in China and what will it bring to the rest of the world. A question frequently asked is: "How will China influence the world?"  相似文献

Not Worth the Hassle A DVD is exported for US $32. It cost US $13 to make, and a fee of US $18 is payable to the foreign company that holds the patent. It might say "Made in China," but a simple calculation shows that the Chinese manufacturer makes just US $1 profit for his efforts. MP3 makers fare little better, with average profits of US $1.5 per unit after costs and patent fees. "This is a common phe- nomenon in the Chinese manufacturing sector these days," says Liu Qingfeng, CEO…  相似文献

It is common knowledge that China, with its 1.3 billion people, is the most populous country on the face of the earth. An internationally accepted definition of an aging society is one where more than 10 percent of the population is aged over  相似文献

For the first eight months of 2014, foreign direct investment (FDI) into non-financial sectors edged down 1.8 percent from the same period in 2013. Certain domestic and overseas media have come to the conclusion that the frenzied influx of foreign capital into China is eooling down. But are they right?  相似文献

正SUCCESS in the manufacturing industry demands as much hard work as farmers need to grow rice–they sow the seeds one by one and reap the harvest one by one.Despite its cautionary tone, this well-known metaphor in industry circles has never shaken the resolve of the managers of Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group(XCMG),a respected pioneer of China’s manufacturing industry.Wang Min,chairman of XCMG,said that China’s equipment manufacturing industry would not be as successful as it is today without the people at its helm who stick to  相似文献

MY 12-year-old son's bedtime question last night was Mom, when will Mrs. Mei bring Angel back to Beijing?
Mrs. Mei (Kathy) was the principal of The Wall Street Journal's Beijing Office. She and Mr. Mei, who was the first secretary of the U.S. Embassy in China, passed a four-year term here before returning to the U.S. in 2006. My family cherishes memories of our wonderful times with them. Although separated by the Pacific Ocean now, the friendship between our two families has remained close.  相似文献
