Beginning from the advent of the 21st century, the world has increasingly shifted toward multi-polarization, and international relations are becoming normalized and institutionalized due to economic globalization and regional integration. The concept of multilateralism has gained currency in the international community and become a cornerstone of international relations.1 In this context, India highlights multilateral diplomacy in its foreign strategy, and enthusiastically engages in the construction of multilateral systems.  相似文献

On the stages of international politics and economics, the European Union (EU) is a key player, and its development has great impact on the global political and economic setup. In 2005, the "constitutional crisis" occurred in the EU, the fruits of European economic integration, which once was thought irreversible, like the Single European Market and the united currency of euro, now also might fall apart.  相似文献

Since the end of the Cold War, the United States has become the only "superpower" in the world, and its global strategy has exerted significant impact on the international situation. This has caught wide attention of scholars and analysts on international relations. Generally speaking, America has kept a relatively stable national strategic objective in the post-Cold War years, namely, to maintain its "leading position in the world" as long as possible. To put it in detail, strategically,  相似文献

Since the disintegration of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, the United States has become the world's only superpower and played a leading role in international affairs. The trend of U. S. international standing depends on the development of its comprehensive national strength and changes in the balance of great powers. Here comprehen- sive national strength includes "hard power" (namely economic, mili- tary and scientific/technological powers) and "soft power" (mainly re- ferring to nat…  相似文献

Ever since Sept. 11 events, international situation has undergone remarkable changes. Not only has the United States made major readjustments to its security strategy and foreign policy, but major powers in the world have also adjusted their foreign and security policies in order to adapt to the new development in international situation. In its effort to fight terrorism, the U.S. has to rely heavily on its allies, and in Asia it attaches much importance to the role Japan can play while the latter has given active support to the former in that war. The greater intimacy of the Japan- US relations has become even more outstanding in the recent interrelations of major powers in the Asia- Pacific region. This development and its effect on the international situation deserve to be reckoned with.  相似文献

China's Role in the World China has so far joined almost all the post-war inter-governmental organizations as well as international institutions and regimes in other forms. Moreover, according to the economic size without considering the structure of the Chinese economy (e. g. Chinese economy has heavily depended on foreign direct investment and foreign trade),China has continuously risen to the status of one of the largest economies in the world. However, China's joining the international system does not necessarily mean it has been playing its role in the world.  相似文献

How to Appraise?
The world is complex and full of changes. This is the fundamental characteristic of the international situation. In the five years since September 11, the increase of the terrorist threat has impelled the United States to adjust its global strategy. Unilateralism, with preemptive measures as its core, has reached its zenith and, therefore a host of regional and global contradictions have appeared. This is the main thread of the international situation in the past five years.  相似文献

As a major event at the turn of the century, NATO's world-shocking air strikesagainst Yugoslavia represent certain dangerous trends in US global strategyand international strategic configuration. The event has aroused widespread con-cern and heightened vigilance among the international community. Althoughflames of war have died out in the Balkans, yet the dust there has yet to settle. It,therefore, remains a matter of urgency to engage in some comprehensive, in-depth, strategic reflections on the major event itself, its international consequences  相似文献

The European Union (EU) is widely regarded as an important international actor, and usually referred to as a big power like the U. S. , Russia, China and Japan. So naturally the foreign policy of the EU has caught attention of both officials and scholars over the world. However, the EU is also a combination of sovereign states, its foreign policy is different from others, and perhaps this is often ignored. For instance, unlike a single nation state, the EU's influence and power are different in various policy fields due to its different ways of decision-making and implementation. Also, different from the common currency, the forming of the common foreign policy of the EU doesn't mean the disappearance of respective member state's foreign policy. Only seeing or emphasizing one respect will lead to a misunderstanding of the EU. Moreover, as a unique "supranational and intergovernmental" organization in the world, the EU has too many complex institutions, names and terms. Of course, the situation is not better in the field of foreign policy, and it easily leads to confusion and misunderstanding. It is also necessary to point out that the EU is still in the process of evolvement, and in particular, as one of the major reforms of the EU in recent years, the foreign policy-making mechanism has been in the center of change and adjustment. It is no doubt that this adds to the difficulties of studying and understanding the EU's foreign policy. In a word, the author thinks it is necessary to raise some major issues related to the EU's foreign policy and delve into it in connecting with the EU's current development.  相似文献

The European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) comprises an important part of the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).The aim of ESDP is to strengthen the EU's external ability to act through the development of civilian and military capabilities for international conflict prevention and crisis management. In December 2003, the EU adopted its first European Security Strategy (ESS). Ever since then, the implementation of the ESS has been regarded as one of the biggest challenges for the EU in CFSP/ESDP matters. Although much progress has been made in its independent security and defence-building process, EU still faces serious problems and difficulties in this policy area. This paper tries to examine these recent developments, assess their impacts in regional-global security, and analyze existing problems and future trends. Finally, the author also examines EU-China engagements in recent years and explores possibilities for their future cooperation in the area of international security.  相似文献

he world today is undergoing profound changes not seen in a century. In terms of its formal structure, the world system has been greatly affected by the striking economic and social developments, changes in the international order, and adjustments in international relations. In effect, the world is facing great instability and uncertainty.Multilateralism is undergoing a major crisis, global governance is being challenged, while strategic competition among great powers has grown increasingly fierce.Confronting increasingly uncertain circumstances,China should maintain its strategic focus, strengthen the top-level design of its diplomacy, improve the overall layout, and step up efforts in its practices. In this way,China will effectively safeguard the stability of the global order and become an indispensable source of“positive energy”in this changing world.  相似文献

The cultural diplomacy of China today has entered into a period of rapid development. Yet there is still much room for improvement in promoting China's new diplomatic thinking. In step with China's growing economy and increased weight in international affairs, the Chinese government has changed its diplomatic strategy to "building a harmonious world." To make this concept more attractive and acceptable to other countries and peoples, China should expand its soft power resources, strengthen international cultural exchanges to draw on the fine achievements of foreign cultures, enhance the influence of Chinese culture worldwide, exploit new channels for international cultural exchanges, develop its cultural industry, and improve its comprehensive power.  相似文献
