《秘密花园》的女性主义解读

弗朗西斯·霍奇森·伯内特（Frances Hodgson Burnett）的儿童小说《秘密花园》（The Secret Garden,1911）是其最著名、最成功的作品。人物塑造是这部作品的成功基础。除此之外,由于它体现了作者的女性主义思想。这一努力,同样是作品艺术魅力的重要所在。本文试图从人物、小说类型及花园的隐喻意义三个方面,从女性主义角度解读这部小说,探讨的笔触主要在于：第一,对人物的分析集中在两个少年人物——玛丽和迪肯,说明作者对“双性同体”思想的肯定。第二,该小说的类型使其成为形式独特的儿童小说。作者打破了传统中男孩子的书和女孩子的书的界限,将历险小说和家庭小说结合在一起。第三,伯内特给秘密花园赋予了隐喻意义。荒芜了十年的花园在玛丽的手中复活,因此它象征着女性发挥创造力的园地．是其“自己的屋子”。

树被它错综复杂的根“拖累”着,一辈子只能待在一个地方他不能选择自己的出生地,像一个杯子似的,一生的命运都掌握在别人的手里,自己没有半点自主权。更可悲的是：不论多猛烈的暴风雨,多可怕的旱灾、水灾,它都无法挣脱它的根．逃离灾难现场。

《公案·旧案·疑案—史家谈古论今》李德堂所著长篇小说《沉重的家园》(第一部血染、第二部践踏)已由百花洲文艺出版社出版。为写这部小说,作者几十年来积累了大量素材,直接引用原汁原味的历史文献、原始资料是本书的一大特色。小说反映了一个中国农村的孩子成长过程,忠实记录     

《当代东南亚政治指南》（七）

柬埔寨人民革命党(Kampuchean People’s Revolutionary Party [KPRP])是1979年1月8日成立的柬埔寨人民共和国(People’s Republic of Kampuchea[PRK])唯一合法的执政党。直到在1981年5月它所宣称的第四次代表大会上，该党才显示了它的存在。     

《剑桥东南亚史》读后

令读者盼望已久的《剑桥东南亚史》中译本已于2003年1月由云南人民出版社出版。虽然这部著作较之其他剑桥史姗姗来迟,但是这部集东南亚史研究之大成的150万言的历史巨著,最终能与中国读者见面,这实在是中国东南亚史学界的一大喜事。捧读之余,笔者赞赏组译者和出版者的学术眼光与魄力,也看到他们为此付出的巨大的艰辛劳动。我国读者对享誉国际学术界的剑桥中国史和世界史并不陌生,这些著作早已被翻译成中文介绍到中国来了。可是国内读者对《剑桥东南亚史》了解得并不是太多。此书1992年在英国出版后也同其他剑桥史一样曾引起不小的轰动,主编…

《色·戒》：不要亵渎女儿心

李安导演的《色·戒》于今年威尼斯电影节夺得金狮大奖，主角王佳芝的原型引起了争议。电影系据张爱玲同名小说改编。不可否认，张氏小说取材于当年暗杀汉奸而英勇牺牲的女烈士郑苹如的事迹。张爱玲近年来大受吹捧，我个人认为她的小说就是沦陷时期腐蚀人民的麻醉剂。     

独特的非政府组织——跨国激进党

跨国激进党(Transnational Radical Party)是一个植根于欧洲、面向全球的超国界、超党派跨国政治团体,自称在43个国家有其党员,除总部设在罗马外,还在布鲁塞尔、纽约和莫斯科设立了办事处。1995年跨国激进党成为在联合国经社理事会具有“一类咨商地位”的131个非政府组织之一。近20年来,该党秉承“运用圣雄甘地提倡的非暴力手段维护世界民主自由”的宗旨,惯以各种激进方式积极投入争取人权的斗争。

An Endangered Partnership: The Anglo-American Defence Relationship in the Early Twenty-first Century

Abstract

This article examines the contemporary Anglo-American defence relationship. It begins by setting the general historical and contemporary context, including the impact of the Iraq war, before focusing on the military dimension. The main body of the paper addresses UK/US military planning and operations, UK defence budgetary issues, nuclear weapons collaboration and the impact of changing strategic relationships between the UK, US and Europe. The author argues that the longstanding defence partnership is threatened by a number of factors, including interoperability problems, the UK's national and defence spending priorities, the likely impact of a decision to replace Trident and the decline in the importance of the transatlantic strategic partnership in NATO. The paper concludes that changing US strategic priorities and further reductions in Britain's military capabilities are likely to erode the perceived value of the Anglo-American defence partnership on both sides of the Atlantic.

Alternatives to the Resident Embassy: Intra-EU Diplomatic Networks in the Twenty-first Century

Increasingly integrated in a common political entity, the European Union’s member states are exploring new avenues to shape and maintain their mutual relations. This analysis describes three alternatives to the traditional resident embassy by which ministries of foreign affairs within the EU attempt to maintain diplomatic networks. The models discussed are secondments within member states’ capitals, visiting ambassadors, and co-location and co-operation. In other words, with regard to different modes of representation, member states can consider diving in, stepping back, or pooling and sharing. These developments shed light on the ways in which the diplomatic machineries of the member states are trying to adapt to the demands of a “post-Westphalian” environment such as that of the EU.     

Employment Niches for Recent Refugees: Segmented Labour Market in Twenty-first Century Australia

A survey of three refugee groups (ex-Yugoslavs, black Africansand people from the Middle East) in Western Australia indicatesthat the recent humanitarian arrivals are concentrated in labourmarket niches such as cleaning services, care of the aged, meatprocessing, taxi driving, security and building. Apart fromthe building industry, these employment niches are situatedin the ‘secondary labour market’ comprising low-statusand low-paid jobs that locals avoid. This article identifiesseveral interrelated mechanisms through which the recent Australianrefugee intake has been relegated to undesirable jobs: non-recognitionof qualifications as a systemic barrier, discrimination on thebasis of race and cultural difference by employers, ‘ethnic-pathintegration’ and the lack of mainstream social networksthat could assist in the job search, and the recent ‘regionalsponsored migration scheme’ through which the governmenttries to address the shortage of low-skilled labour in depopulatingcountry areas. The data show massive loss of occupational statusamong our respondents and confirm the existence of the segmentedlabour market, where racially and culturally visible migrantsare allocated the bottom jobs regardless of their ‘humancapital’. Changes in the nature of the segmented labourmarket in the increasingly mobile global workforce are analysed.Some of these insights are drawn from two other research projectson Bosnian and Afghan refugees in Australia undertaken by theauthors.     

地缘政治视角下的21世纪海上丝绸之路通道安全

21世纪海上丝绸之路是中国推动与亚非国家命运共同体建设的重大战略举措。要保证海上丝绸之路建设顺利进行,保障沿线海上通道安全是首要前提。海上丝绸之路途经东南亚和北印度洋两大地缘政治区域,通道周边地缘安全局势复杂。综合而言,海上丝绸之路面临着霸权国家战略遏制、沿线国家战略干扰、沿线地区冲突及海盗活动等三方面安全威胁。加强海上力量、打造战略支点、构建安全合作机制将是保障21世纪海上丝绸之路安全的有效战略对策。     

Where the World Ceases to be Flat

This article reviews two recent contributions to the study of Indian Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES), Working the Night Shift: Women in India's Call Center Industry by Reena Patel and Dead Ringers: How Outsourcing is Changing the Way Indians Understand Themselves by Shehzad Nadeem. The contributions each makes to the study of outsourcing, especially to analyses of gender and consumer citizenship, are reviewed. The article concludes that further work in the field should investigate the relationship between ITES and the post-colonial nation and the study of the emerging class formations that striate labor in this industry.     

世人关注的"世界社会论坛"

2002年1月31日～2月5日,作为中国国际交流协会(以下简称中国交协)理事,笔者同交协研究人员杜燕凌和朱玲玲应邀参加在巴西阿雷格里港市召开的第2届"世界社会论坛"大会.中国代表首次与会,受到东道主的重视."世界社会论坛"虽然不发表正式文件,但它讨论了涉及全世界基层劳动者及整个人类的诸多问题,引起广泛关注.

汉字在越南的兴衰是一个漫长的历史过程,受到越南历史发展进程和政治环境的深刻影响,可划分为各具特色的若干历史阶段。"千年郡县时期"1,越族接受汉文化和汉字;封建自主时期,越族主动接受它们,并充分吸收和本土化,形成颇具特色的越南文化和字喃;法国殖民者统治越南后,通过法令废除汉字,转而推广使用拉丁国语字。20世纪40年代"八月革命"后,越南正式通过法令确立拉丁国语字作为全国通用书写文字。
