THE Central University for Nationalities Ethnic Museum houses over 20,000 cultural relics relating to China's 56 ethnic groups. The majority of these are traditional costumes and ornaments that examplify expertise on the part of ethnic minorities in weaving, dying, embroidery and tannage. Some are decades, and others centuries old. Exhibits such as the gifts to Chairman Mao Zedong and the central government in the early days of the People's Republic from the Panchen Lama, Dalai Lama, and ethnic minorities across China are of great political and historical significance.  相似文献

Covered up by the socalled "universality" of sports in general, these special values determine the cultural uniqueness of China's ethnic sports, which is often reduced to oblivion as sports, taken as a whole,  相似文献

HAVING worked in the television industry for 15 years, I've been to various Chinese, European and American cities, but of all of them I like my hometown, Harbin in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the best. My affection stems neither from Harbin's beauty nor my nostalgia, but from the city's distinctive glamour.Harbin's unique culture came into being because of two major events: the Niizhen, ancestors of the Manchu ethnic group, establishing their capital in what is now Harbin 800 years ago, and the influx of foreign immigrants in the 20th century. Both of these groups introduced distinct cultural elements to Harbin.  相似文献

Editor's Note: China's vast territory and long history have engendered a profuse and colorful intangible cultural heritage. Wang Wenzhang, president of the China Art Academy, and his staff have spent years on comprehensive research into China's intangible heritage with the aim of salvaging aspects of it that are in danger of dying out. Talking to Wang Wenzhang on the subject truly brings home its universal significance. As Wang says, "The intangible cultural heritage immanent in folklore, ballads, festivals and handicrafts constitute the quintessence of a nation." Folk festivals are a main aspect of the cultural heritage of China's various ethnic groups, one that we will explore and bring to our readers throughout 2008. To quote Wang Wenzhang once more, "History enables knowledge of a nation; knowing its intangible cultural heritage gives insight into its spirit."  相似文献
