Shenzhen： Lodestar of China＇s Reform and Opening-up

THE Third Plenary Session of the 1 lth Central Committee of the CPC in 1978 has always been regarded as the starting point of China＇s reform and opening-up drive. Since there was no previous development model to follow and most Chinese people were fettered by old conventions, the Chinese government decided to set up four experimental Special Economic Zones （SEZs） in the coastal cities of Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Shantou in Guangdong Province, and Xiamen in Fujian Province, in an attempt to find a suitable way to build socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Ilanded a job in a Beijing bank in ：2OLO after graduating with a master＇s degree. I was lucky. A job in a bank in the metropolis is well paid with bright career prospects,and consequently much sought after. But it didn＇t appeal to me. I found that sitting in a cubicle clad in a sharp suit from nine to five, five days a week was slowly eroding my ambition and spirit. I soon felt isolated in this cell of cement, steel and glass. I itched for the freedom of a great wilderness - a world of clear blue skies and lush meadows strewn with wild flowers extending to an open horizon. Although devoid of modern amenities, to me the wild blue yonder teemed with promise and opportunities that would renew my youth and vigor.     

履职立足点：提升城市软实力

文化是城市软实力的集中体现，文博是城市记忆力的协史凸显。我到上海市文化广播影视管理局工作已开始第五个年头，在上海市文物管理委员会和上海博物馆工作也有整整9年。在实际工作中，我深深感到在着力推进改革开放、积极促进社会和谐，努力推进“四个率先”，奋力开创“四个中心”和社会主义现代化国际大都市建设新局面的过程中，提升城市软实力日显重要，增强城市记忆力日趋紧迫。

深圳：改革开放的排头兵

中共十一届三中全会后，中国共产党及时调整国策，提出要“多方面地改变同生产力发展不相适应的生产关系和上层建筑，改变一切不适应的管理方式、活动方式和思想方式”，加快四个现代化建设和后来的“以经济建设为中心”的大政方针。在没有任何新的思想理论指导，没有任何模式可循却又有很多旧的思想理论的种种束缚下，中国共产党人以大胆改革、
