ZHANG XIAOLING 《人权》2007,6(2):24-29
Human rights of women are an inalienable, integral and indivisible part of universal human rights, as well as a major reflection of social civilization and social harmony. Human society is a whole consisting of men and women. The world will inevitably be a disharmonious one if women, who make up half of the total population, cannot enjoy equal human rights. Therefore, gender equality is an essential part of a harmonious society. Strengthening protection of human rights of women is absolutely necessary for building a harmonious world and the development of human rights of women will inevitably promote the building of a harmonious world.  相似文献

Tired of Reading
China has a long tradition of highlighting reading for children, but many of today's youngsters seem not to have developed a love of books Shoved into Cheng Qidi's room is a bulky bookcase, all three of its shelves full of books sorted by their subjects. Dozens of books occupy most of the desk that's beside the bookcase, while on the wall is a poster of U.S. basketball star Allen Iverson.  相似文献

The Tastemakers
JIM Boyce granted me an interview in a bar at 6 p.m.,in between tasting a flight of 13 liquors at 4 p.m.and getting ready for yet another interview at 8 p.m.The first thing he did was recommend I try a white bourbon.Like they say,it’s a tough job but someone has to do it.Boyce sips and scribbles for Beijing Boyce, his nightlife blog, and Grape Wall of China,a website he runs with a host of other contributors from the wine industry. His real work is brand consulting and market research however, with a specialty in natural resources, but wine takes up much of his spare time.My sense is that for Boyce the landscape of Chinese wine seems to be many things - a national coming-of-age drama for an industry,an international cast of characters,a struggle of market forces, treasure rediscovered, and a plot begging for the emergence of heroes. That would explain why readers like his style of sharing what he’s learned,as he learns it.  相似文献

BEYOND the expectations of industry insiders, a low-bud- get, homegrown, feature animation named Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf has become a runaway hit. The plot may not be the secret formula for success; it's an ongoing battle of wits between a herd of goats and a couple of wolves with a relationship similar to that of Tom and Jerk.  相似文献

QI Yumin was vice-mayor of Liaoning's Dalian City until about a year and a half ago. Then he took the helm of the Brilliance Auto Company, based in the provincial capital of Shenyang. At the time, the ailing company was "waiting to be wound up." But Qi went on to change its destiny. When he was vice-mayor of Dalian, Brilliance was to Qi just another auto maker with the same old problems. In December 2005, he took a different view. He was appointed president of Brilliance Auto Company, executive president and chairman of the board of China Brilliance Automobile Holding Company, and president of Brilliance Jinbei Automobile Co., Ltd. En route from Dalian to Shenyang, Qi encountered a Christmas snowstorm. It just about reflected his mood. As he wrote in a text message to his sister, "I am going to a strange city to take a strange job in a strange company. I don't know what to feel."  相似文献

WEEKLY WATCH
OPINION A Balanced View of China Despite China's reassertions that it is a developing country, many foreigners tend to think otherwise. As a matter of fact, with a per-capi-ta GDP of about $1,700, in this category China ranks below 100 on a list of 190 world countries. China has 23 million poor people. An estimated 300 million live on less than $1 a day. Given these figures, there is no doubt that China is a member of the developing world. Most of the foreigners who are shocked at China's achievements  相似文献

At a recent high-level economic symposium, the question of whether or not countries should set GDP growth targets became a hot topic of debate. Some economists pointed out that all of the world's developed countries and the majority of middleincome countries have abandoned GDP growth rates as a target of macroeconomic control.Should China follow suit? The practice of using GDP as a key measure of economic development is not flawless, and some experts therefore suggest it be abandoned. However, others believe the GDP index still has a role to play in China's economy, that doing away with it would impact wide-ranging aspects of Chinese society, and that identifying a substitute index is problematic.  相似文献

Coming as a much-needed boon for the countryside, this year's No.1 Document, jointly released by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, pledges a series of concrete measures to propel improvements in the rural economy and the livelihood of farmers.Nevertheless, rural prosperity in line with the success of urban areas will prove to be a challenge. The foundation of the agriculture sector remains fluid, and farmers lack a stable source of income and a reliable social safety net.  相似文献

Milking It
How franchisers like Dairy Queen and KFC are sweetening their way into the hearts of China's consumers. MINNESOTA Governor Timothy Pawlenty was reminded of the lush meadows and dairy farms of home on a recent visit to downtown Beijing. The jowly governor of one of America's farming centers was taking down time from his China trade mission on a dusky November Sunday afternoon at the Oriental Plaza Dairy Queen, a stone's throw from Tian'anmen Square. Dairy Queen. which is headquartered in Minneapolis, capital of the governor's home state of Minnesota, had just announced a string of deals across China and the governor was toasting his subjects' success with, what else, a milkshake.  相似文献

My arrival here in July marked a symbolic one-that of a fired, yet true emissary from a drifting America to a newly empowered People's Republic of China. My move emanated from a great job offer, of course, and, to a lesser degree, a lack of ways to make a decent living given the eco-nomic cauldron bubbling over back home.  相似文献

As an advanced form of rights, "human rights" is a "great term," which has rich con- notation and complicated denotation. No international, regional or national documents on human rights have a definition accepted by all. The diversity of the concept of human fights shows the complexity of human rights. But there is a consensus that human fights are a kind of right. Rights exist as natural fights (moral rights), legal ri_ohts and oractical riehts. Furthermore.  相似文献

BEFORE 1979, the subtropical coastline facing the South China Sea was a weed-infested wasteland. Local fishermen there had no concept of industry, or even of a city. Then, at the end of 1979 a military trainload of engineering corps arrived at this virtually unknown village and embarked upon construction of China's first Special Economic Zone.  相似文献

To the sound of a whistle, a row of peacocks march onto a narrow bridge behind a woman carrying a basket of food for them. As she walks, the woman sprinkles a bit of food from time to time while the peacocks peck and trail behind her, cackling loudly. The woman happens to be a staff member at the China Peacock Court, a large peacock farm in Jiayuguan, a city in northwest China's Gansu Province.  相似文献
