Human Rights of Women and A Harmonious World

Human rights of women are an inalienable, integral and indivisible part of universal human rights, as well as a major reflection of social civilization and social harmony. Human society is a whole consisting of men and women. The world will inevitably be a disharmonious one if women, who make up half of the total population, cannot enjoy equal human rights. Therefore, gender equality is an essential part of a harmonious society. Strengthening protection of human rights of women is absolutely necessary for building a harmonious world and the development of human rights of women will inevitably promote the building of a harmonious world.

QI Yumin was vice-mayor of Liaoning's Dalian City until about a year and a half ago. Then he took the helm of the Brilliance Auto Company, based in the provincial capital of Shenyang. At the time, the ailing company was "waiting to be wound up." But Qi went on to change its destiny.When he was vice-mayor of Dalian, Brilliance was to Qi just another auto maker with the same old problems. In December 2005, he took a different view. He was appointed president of Brilliance Auto Company, executive president and chairman of the board of China Brilliance Automobile Holding Company, and president of Brilliance Jinbei Automobile Co., Ltd. En route from Dalian to Shenyang, Qi encountered a Christmas snowstorm. It just about reflected his mood. As he wrote in a text message to his sister, "I am going to a strange city to take a strange job in a strange company. I don't know what to feel."

As a matter of fact, with a per-capi-ta GDP of about $1,700, in this category China ranks below 100 on a list of 190 world countries. China has 23 million poor people. At a recent high-level economic symposium,the question of whether or not countries should set GDP growth targets became a hot topic of debate.Some economists pointed out that all of the world's developed countries and the majority of middleincome countries have abandoned GDP growth rates as a target of macroeconomic control.Should China follow suit?The practice of using GDP as a key measure of economic development is not flawless,and some experts therefore suggest it be abandoned.However,others believe the GDP index still has a role to play in China's economy,that doing away with it would impact wide-ranging aspects of Chinese society,and that identifying a substitute index is problematic.
