Opening Remarks at the Second Plenary Session of the 10~(th) Executive Council of CAFIU

Mr.Wang Jiarui,Minister of the International Department of CPC Central Committee,Vice-Presidents of CAFIU,Council Members of CAFIU,Colleagues and friends,On such a beautiful spring day,I am so glad to be here to attend the second plenary session of the 10th Executive Council of CAFIU.I would like to start by extending warm welcome to all of you,who have made time out of your busy schedule to be present today.I also want to thank you for your trust and support to me in my past two years as president of CAFIU.     

Europe＇s Integration Process is Floundering

The post-WWII situation in Europe is closely related to Europe＇s integration process. Right now, one of the special features regarding the current European situation is that Europe＇s integration process has nearly become enmeshed in stagnation. The European Union is disintegrating, with various kinds of contradictions cropping up and its cohesion sharply reduced. The EU rotating chair-state Hungarian premier said, ＂Europe is like a bicycle without a chain, unable to move forward.＂     

The Arab World Attempts Third Revival

Many theories have been put forward to explain the civil unrest that erupted across the Middle East and North Africa at the beginning of this year. The author of this paper believes that seen from an historical perspective the unrest was an attempt by the Arab world to stage a third revival.

1.China-U.S. Relations and the Setuv of Asia-Pacific China Institute of International Studies, a member by Shi Yongming, Associate Fellow, of the editorial board of ＂Peace and Development＂ magazine and a guest researcher of CPDS. The Asia-Pacific region is a confluence area where interests of China and the U.S. meet together. Development in China-U.S. strategic relationship will have direct impact on the the regional setup. Likewise, evolution and changes in that setup will also produce an effect on that alignment of relationship.
