The trade imbalance between China and the United States is becoming a tool for Washington to pursue its "America First" ob-jective. U.S. President Donald Trump has on several occasions threatened to impose steep tariffs on com-modities from China and other countries because he sees the United States as "the victim of a global trade war." In January, the Trump administration imposed tariffs of up to 50 percent on imports of washing ma-chines and solar panels, coming mostly from South Korea and China, respectively. The latest data from China Customs show that China's exports to the U.S. market reached 2.91 tril-lion yuan ($465.2 bilion) in 2017, while imports from the United States amounted to 1.04 trillion yuan ($166.2 billion). China's trade surplus against the United States was 1.87 trilion yuan ($298.9 bilion), up 13 percent from of 2016. But is the trade imbal-ance realy unfair to the United States? Is it fair to judge the trade relationship simply on the basis of surplus or deif cit?  相似文献

正What is the most important lesson that China should learn from the recent termination of its U.S.rail deal?It is not that the overseas markets are complicated or that trade protectionism threats are lurking. What it demonstrates is that the United States cannot keep up with the times, and its public cannot rid themselves of vested interests,  相似文献

On March 22, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a memorandum targeting China's so-called "economic aggression," threatening to impose tariffs on up to $60 billion of imports from China based on an investigation into alleged Chinese intellectual property and technology transfer practices under Section 301 of the U.S. Trade Act of 1974. He also directed the U.S. Treasury Department to propose restrictions on Chinese investment in the United States.  相似文献

A World Trade Organization (WTO) arbitrator on January 26 ruled on the case of the United States—Countervailing Duty Measures on Certain Products From China, determining that China may impose trade retaliations against the U.S. with respect to trade in goods in the amount of$645 million annually given the U.S. failure to comply with a WTO ruling in force. China now urges the U.S. to take immediate action to right its wrongs in trade remedy investigations targeting China.  相似文献

On February 14, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative issued a report entitled "U.S.-China Trade Relations: Entering a New Phase of Greater Accountability and Enforcement." It is the first comprehensive statement of U.S. trade policy toward China since China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman, who submitted the report to Congress, says, "Our bilateral trade relationship with China today lacks equity, durability and balance in the opportunities it provides." However, Mei Xinyu, a research fellow at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Commerce, points out that the report "shows some reasons but still contains quite a few defects." His main ideas in an article carried in People's Daily follow:  相似文献

FOLLOWING a hiatus of 21 years, trade relations between the U.S. and China were resumed with the declaration of the Shanghai Joint Communiqué during President Nixon’s February 1972 visit to China. Prior to this historic declaration,President Nixon issued a statement on April 14,1971 outlining five steps to be taken before trade with China could be restarted. On June 10 of that year, the White House published a list of potential non-strategic trade items, thus setting the ball rolling toward an end to the trade ban imposed on China 21 years before.  相似文献
