Geographical distance has not hindered friendly relations, ongoing for more than two centuries, between China and Norway. Norway recognized the People's Republic of China on January 7,1950 and diplomatic relations were established on October 5, 1954. In 1955, the two countries began to exchange ambassadors. Since then their political, economic and cultural cooperation has steadily advanced. The year 2004 marks the 50th anniversary of establishment of Sino-Norwegian diplomatic relations. In honor of the occasion, China Today spoke with Norwegian Ambassador Tor Chr. Hildan on bilateral trade and economic cooperation.  相似文献

CHINA has long had a close relationship with Africa, and in recent years economic and political ties have grown even stronger. Both the Chinese government and private enterprises have significant investments on the African continent. Last November a 20-member governmental delegation came to Beijing from the central-east African nation of Uganda, to talk to Chinese political and business leaders about fostering economic and cultural links between the two countries. Shortly after the delegation's visit, two China Today reporters met with the Ugandan Ambassador, Mr. Charles Madibo Wagidoso, to discuss what was achieved, the ambassador's impressions of China and the upcoming Beijing Olympics.  相似文献

MA'ANSHAN, in eastern Anhui Province, is an iron and steel industry based city that has developed since the founding of new China. Ma'anshan is not one of Anhui's largest cities, as regards territory, population, and aggregate economy, yet its per capita major economic indexes have ranked first in the province for successive years. China's huge population dilutes per capita resources, so integrated and coordinated development of the regional economy is vital. Nanjing, capital city of neighboring Jiangsu Province, is just a 30-minute drive away, which has prompted Ma'anshan to take the initiative of merging into the Nanjing Megalopolis* and the Yangtze River Delta Economic Belt* (*see the reference box at the end of the article).  相似文献

Moderation, or "the doctrine of the mean," is the preferred Chinese practice. In order to stimulate the economy since its downturn seven years ago, the Chinese government has adopted a pro-active financial policy that will, in the wake of rapid economic growth, effect its economic soft landing. DEVELOPMENT is the key to solving China's problems... economic restructuring will be the central task, and reform of the economic system will provide a firm footing for making relations of production adaptable to productive forces, and the superstructure congruous with the economic base, promoting healthy, sustainable development of the society and economy." Such statements made at the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee signify the paramount importance the ruling party places on China's economic development.  相似文献

THE recent publication of America's second quarter GDP data, following that for China, makes it possible to accurately compare the recent performance of the world's two largest economies and the results are extremely striking. In the last year the slowdown in the U.S. economy has been far more serious than in China. Therefore while both economies are being adversely affected by current negative trends in the world economy, China is dealing with these much more successfully than the U.S. In light of media discussion about China's economic "slowdown" it is equally important that attention is paid to understanding why the U.S.'s own economic slowdown is much worse than China's when confronted with similar global economic trends.  相似文献

IN the second half of 2011,the European debt crisis spread further, sending shockwaves throughout the world and dragging down the global economic recovery. The world is turning its gaze from the U.S. with its sluggish economic recovery and Japan with its lasting depression to emerging economies like China and Brazil. The momentum of China’s economic growth will not only become the main concern of China’s major trade partners, but will also be a focus of world major transnational corporations’ attention.  相似文献

THE reduction of China’s 2012 growth target to 7.5 percent from the eight percent of recent years headlined the international media coverage of PremierWen Jiabao’s report to the National People’s Congress. The announcement was greeted with fallson international stock markets - simultaneously reflecting China’s economic weight and a misanalysis by international markets. But the lowered target, which is justified by the global economic situation,is only the tip of the iceberg of complex short- and long-term challenges China is facing in its economic policy.  相似文献

AS the global economic meltdown triggered by the U.S. subprime lending mess enters its fourth year, signs of a full recovery are still nowhere to be seen. The Eurozone debt crisis rages on, further troubling the fragile world economy. Like the Great Depression of the 1930s, the current crisis is likely going through a cycle of contraction, stagnation and recovery. Unlike the Great Depression, however, which was primarily a secondary sector crisis, today’s economic  相似文献

THE rise of China is gaining more momentum thanks to its increasing economic, political, and strategic weight in the AsiaPacific region, and its outstanding performance in a post-crisis global economy. With an average annual economic growth of 9.5 percent over the past two decades, China has remained the single largest contributor to global growth over the past few years. However, its economic thrust has come at high energy and environment costs: it is the second-largest energy consumer and one of the largest greenhouse gas emitters worldwide.  相似文献
