She has “China Complex” All Her Life——A story of an American friend

She was an ordinary and common person. As a “white angel” she came to Yan-an China,from the other side of the ocean with a young girl‘s dream. She spent only oneyear there, but her “China complex” had been with her for tens of years, until she died at the age of 72 in Beijing in 1991.     

To a Nuclear Weapons-Free World——A Chinese Perspective

A nuclear weapons-free world(NWFW) has been advocated and welcomed recently.However,the realization of a NWFW is quite difficult.The author believes that it is more realistic to build a nuclear weapons-free zone(NWFZ) than it is to build a NWFW,at least in the short term.She analyses the significance of NWFZs and issues confronting the existing zones and pointed out how to create more NWFZs.     

Ways to Advance China＇s ＂Going Out＂ Policy

China officially adopted its "Going Out" strategy in 2001 when it was included in the Tenth Five-Year plan. Over the past decade, the policy has gone from strength to strength: from its launch, to its prudent execution, and to efforts made to advance it further (as mentioned in its inclusion in the Twelfth Five-Year plan). "Going Out" is an obvious next step for a rapidly rising China during a period of strategic opportunities.

Reflections on Maritime Parmership： Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road

The ＂Silk Road＂ is a general term used to geographically describe ancient Chinese exchanges between Asia, Europe and Africa in the areas of politics, economics and culture. Starting on land and developing on sea, the ＂Silk Road＂ is a vehicle of historic importance for the dissemination of culture. The ancient maritime Silk Road was developed under political and economic backgrounds and was the result of cooperative efforts from ancestors of both the East and West. China＇s proposal to build a 21st Century Maritime Silk Road is aimed at exploring the unique values and concepts of the ancient road, enriching it with new meaning for the present era and actively developing economic partnerships with countries situated along the route. Specifically, the proposal seeks to further integrate current cooperation in order to achieve positive effects.

International Order in the 21st Century and China''s Foreign Strategy

Dramatic changes have occurred in the post-Cold War world strategic configuration and international order with their replacements burgeoning. This confronts nations, big powers in particular, with new strategic choices. Indeed unfolding before us is a contention among them for seizing the initiative in the emerging international landscape in the 21st century.Thus how to correctly assess and respond to these changes for pursuing a reasonable strategy and selecting a right policy option is not only a matter of primary concern for the academic community, but also a major foreign policy task before a rapidly growing China. For this, a symposium on this theme was recently sponsored by the Editorial Department of Contemporary International Relations to solicit from a dozen or so Beijingbased well-known scholars and experts for their views on and policy suggestions for such issues as the current overall strategic picture, global configuration, trends of the international order and the strategic environment facing China.
