The Battle of Muye—The First Massive Battle in the History of China

Xinxiang is located at the southern foot of Taihang Mountain and at the northern foot of the Yellow River. It was here that took place a great event which changed the history of China. This was the Muye battle. After this decisive battle, Zhou Dynasty (11th century -221 B.C.) replaced Shang Dynasty (16th-11th century B.C.). Inclusion of Human Rights in the Constitution——An Important Milestone in China's Human Rights Development

On March 14, 2004, a proposed amendment to the Constitution was adopted by the Second Session of the Tenth National People's Congress (NPC), which stipulates clearly that "the state respects and safeguards human fights." This is the first time that the concept of "human rights" has been included in the Constitution—a major event in the development of China's democratic constitutionalism and political civilization, and an important milestone in human rights progress in China.     

The Relationship between Human Rights and Development——A Brief Analysis of the Perspectives of Chinese Scholars and the Practice of Chinese Government

With the change and development of the concept of human rights, the thinking about the relationship between human rights and development is becoming more and more deeply. Under this background, the author profoundly realizes that both recognizing the economic development as the first priority like some developing countries do and considering the human rights to be the most important thing as most developed countries do are unilateral and harmful to the social progress. Human rights and development are interdependent and mutually promoting each other. This paper introduces the three main viewpoints of the relationship between human rights and development. Based on the changes of the attitudes of the UN and China to the relationship between human rights and development, this paper holds that though it is a great progress for the Chinese government to understand that human rights and development are interdependent, there are still lots of difficulties in realizing their mutually benefiting relationship in reality. These difficulties are due to the lack of professionals who enjoy good understandings of the rules for social development and are capable of practicing human rights theories. Therefore, the authors suggest that the promotion of human rights education is instrumental to the development and progress of human society.     

Role of Rural Regulations in Environmental Protection and Green Development——Findings from Wendou Village in Guizhou Province

The widespread involvement in social action involving environmental protection, green development and sustainable development by means of people-oriented rural regulations in Wendou Village of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Minority Autonomous Prefecture in Guizhou Province is quite unique and is in keeping with the basic spirit of the Declaration on the Right to Development.Wendou has long been known to cherish the tradition of making rural regulations to govern the village and protect the environment. In the entrance of Wendou, there is a stone stele called "Stele of Six Points for Prohibition" and another stele recording management of forestry resources set up twelve years later than the first one. These prohibitory regulations on the steles gradually became customary law in the form of rural regulations, which has had a significant role in environmental protection in Wendou Village. Adhering to those self-governing traditions, Wendou villagers enacted Villagers' s Self-governance Agreement in September 10 th of 2015, which stipulated the villagers' and the village committee's obligations in environmental protection both directly and indirectly.The green development mechanism and system set up in Wendou village would severely punish environmental destruction. Wendou's experiences show that rural regulations have a positive effect on environmental protection.
