A state visit to China during the first year in office is unprecedented for a U. S.president, but Barack Obama has made it. Moreover, the fact that President Obama spent four days and three nights of his seven-day visit to four Asian nations in Beijing and Shanghai has demonstrated the importance his administration attaches to China and to Sino-U.S. relations in its global strategy.  相似文献

Change in diplomatic parlance hints at a further warming of Sino-U.S. ties, even as differences continue If there is one word that has emerged as a keyword in Sino-U.S. relations since 2005, that is "stakeholder." It first came up in a speech last September by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, who proposed that China be a "responsible stakeholder" in the international system. To many experts in international studies, it indicated that Washington was setting  相似文献

On February 21, 1972, U.S. President Richard Nixon started a weeklong official visit to China, the first by an American leader to the People's Republic. Nixon later called it "The week that changed the world." At the end of his trip the two countries released the Joint Communique of the United States of America and the People's Republic of China (also known as Shanghai Communique), in which both expressed a desire to normalize relations and stressed common ground on several key issues. The frosty ties between two of the world's biggest countries began to thaw. On December 16, 1978, China and the U.S. signed the Joint Communiqu6 on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, officially recognizing each other and establishing diplomatic relations on January 1, 1979. On March 1 the same year they exchanged ambassadors and embassies, and Sino-U.S. relationships entered a new epoch.  相似文献

DURING his talks with U.S. President Barack Obama at Rancho Mirage, California last June, Chinese President Xi Jinping told his American counterpart that the main purpose of his state visit was to establish a blueprint for future development of Sino-U.S. relations and for cooperation across the Pacific Ocean. The meeting is hence widely viewed as a strategic diplomatic event between the two countries' leaderships - one equal to their "handshake across the Pacific Ocean" in 1972.  相似文献

正Trump administration politicizes pandemic for electoral gain While in the midst of a pandemic and with a crying need for the U.S. and China to unite and work together,it is unfortunate that China-U.S. relations have deteriorated to a level not seen since the Cold War before Richard Nixon’s historic visit to China in 1972.
