Kultur und Erkenntnis

Die folgenden Überlegungen zeigen, dass Max Webers berühmter Aufsatz zur ??Objektiviät’ sozialwissenschaftlicher und sozialpolitischer Erkenntnis“ als Ausgangspunkt eines methodologisch verteidigungsfähigen soziologischen Forschungsprogramms nicht dienen kann. Einige der weitreichendsten Fehlannahmen werden analysiert und ansatzweise korrigiert und verbessert.     

Ganzheitliche Bewegungen, Transzendenzerfahrung und die Entdifferenzierung von Kultur und Religion in Europa

Ausgehend von der Beobachtung einer religiösen Resakralisierung beschäftigt sich der Beitrag mit der vermeintlichen Sonderrolle Europas. Europa gilt manchen als (letzte) Bastion der Säkularisierung — mithin eine Ausnahme auf globaler Ebene. Dagegen will der Aufsatz zeigen, dass die Entwicklung in Europa sehr große Ähnlichkeiten mit den religiösen Phänomenen hat, die auf weltweiter Ebene zunehmen. Es handelt sich um pfingstlerische, charismatische Bewegungen, die sich durch einen Antiinstitutionalismus und eine starke Erfahrungsorientierung auszeichnen. Diese Erfahrungsorientierung ist auch in der alternativen Religiosität ausgeprägt, die in Europa eine starke Verbreitung gefunden hat. Sowohl innerhalb als auch außerhalb Europas finden sich also Bewegungen, die das pflegen, was man im Anschluss an Schütz und Luckmann als Erfahrungen großer Transzendenz bezeichnen kann. Sie sind Teil eines Prozesses der Subjektivierung und Betonung der Ganzheitlichkeit, die strukturell zu einer Entdifferenzierung von Kultur und Religion führen.     

Arbeit und Organisation in der funktional differenzierten Gesellschaft

This article identifies central dimensions of the concept of labor and integrates this concept into a systems-theoretical framework. It proposes to describe labor as the inclusion of persons in the performance of organizations. We demonstrate that by using this reconceptualization it becomes possible to situate the concept of labor within organizational theory and theories of society. Furthermore, empirical sketches of labor in firms and schools show how this reconceptualization of labor fosters our understanding of work in contemporary societies.

Die Organisation von Wissensarbeit

Die Leitfrage dieses Artikels lautet: Wie ist Wissensarbeit organisiert und welche Konsequenzen hat dies für den Organisationsbegriff? Zuerst wird der Begriff Organisation definiert. Anschlie?end wird Wissensarbeit als eine T?tigkeit definiert, deren Mittel und Zwecke nicht programmiert sind und die deshalb konstitutiv darauf angewiesen ist, dass zum einen der Austausch von Daten und zum anderen die interaktive Generierung neuen Wissens erfolgen. Der Begriff Wissensarbeit wird kurz im ?konomischen, im arbeitssoziologischen und im systemtheoretischen Diskurs rekonstruiert. Es wird dann gezeigt, dass Wissensarbeit sich nicht mit Hilfe traditioneller Kontrollformen managen l?sst. Aus einer Reihe von Kontextsteuerungsverfahren wird hier besonders das eines gro?en Handlungsspielraums analysiert, der sowohl intrinsische Motivation als auch nicht intendierte Kooperation unterstützt. Abschlie?end werden die Ver?nderungen für den Organisationsbegriff bei einem solchen Verst?ndnis für Wissensarbeit aufgezeigt. An den beiden Beispielen von Partnerschaften und zirkul?rem Organisieren wird dies illustriert.     

Development of Labour Organisation in Singapore, 1800-1960

This paper looks at the long-term development of labour relations in Singapore. Firstly, it suggests a periodisation for the history of the Singapore labour movement. Secondly, the paper examines the shifting nature of industrial relations and the ability or lack thereof for labour to organise. One consistent theme emerges, that is the question of identity and consciousness among labour. Unless workers were able to identify themselves as labour, as opposed to capitalists, it was difficult for them to maintain a sustained effort to press for their own interests. In the nineteenth century, labourers were organised under patriarchal groups based on surnames or lineages. In the twentieth century, unions were part of the political movements for independence. Within the tripartite framework of labour, business and government, labour almost always found itself subordinated by the partnership of the state and capital, or government and business.     

The Australian Greens: Party Organisation and Political Processes

The Greens challenge the Australian two‐party system by promoting an alternative political agenda and by facilitating democratic processes. Their recent successes in federal and state elections suggest that the party itself deserves closer scrutiny. This paper shows how the Greens are organisationally different from other parties currently active in Australian politics due to both their internal processes and their parliamentary practices. Recent theories of parties argue that party organisation has changed significantly for major parties, adopting an electoral‐professional or cartel model that centralises power and decision‐making in party representatives within parliaments. This paper shows how a smaller party uses identity formation processes to establish a distinctive organisational style. We examine the Greens' party organisation by analysing the interdependent relationships between the party membership, the state and national offices, and Green MPs. The paper is based on original research including in‐depth interviews undertaken with state and federal Greens members of parliaments.

War-emergency is one of the few occasions when the problemsof Africa can be treated as a whole, without too much regardfor national sovereignties or vested interests. The author ofthis article was put in charge of trans-African transport projectsat a time when existing supply routes to the Middle East werevery seriously threatened. His remarks have more than a merelyhistorical interest.     

Care-Politiken,Care-Arbeitsmarkt und Ungleichheit: Schweden,Deutschland und Italien im Vergleich

Social and demographic changes in western societies have led to a (re-)definition of social rights related to care-dependency and the introduction of further regulations of formal and informal care delivery. Care has increasingly become provided in the public sectors – the state, market and civic sector – and new types of cash benefits to support informal family care have been introduced. In this article, the concept of social care is used as a theoretical tool to analyse the relationship between the (re-)definition of social rights, the growth of a regular or grey care labour market and the related development of new forms of inequality according to socio-economic class and ethnicity in the female dominated area. The empirical comparison of the developments in Sweden, Germany and Italy reveals the dimensions of social rights – eligibility criteria, level and types of benefits – which are decisive for the growth of a regular and grey care labour market and the intersection of different forms of inequality.     

Masterstatus, Familie und Geschlecht

Intention des Beitrages ist es, Geschlecht und Familie auf der Basis eines institutionenorientierten Lebenslaufansatzes neu zu durchdenken. Die Zentrierung auf gesellschaftliche Institutionen als Orte der Vermittlung von individuellem Handeln und sozialstrukturellen Bedingungen ermöglicht es, mikro-, meso- und makrosoziale Interdependenzen in den Mittelpunkt zu rücken und bisher zum großen Teil verdeckten, da indirekten Strukturierungen von Geschlechterverhältnissen auf die Spur zu kommen. Aus dieser Perspektive relativiert sich die in der Lebenslaufforschung dominierende Individualisierungs-These zugunsten der Erkenntnis, dass Individuen sich durch institutionelle Eigenlogiken untereinander vernetzt sehen, die sie in neue Zwickmühlen bringen. Der Beitrag von Lebenslauf-Institutionen zur Rekonstruktion einer Geschlechterordnung gerät zwar zunehmend in Widerspruch zu Anforderungen an das individuelle Management der eigenen Biographie, doch der relationale Bezug zwischen Institutionen scheint Familie und Geschlecht weder aus ihren subjektiven Verpflichtungsmustern zu entlassen, noch aus ihrer sozialstrukturellen Vermittlerrolle zwischen biographischen Optionen und inkompatiblen institutionellen Verfügbarkeits-Ansprüchen.     

Histories and Memories in the Organisation and Struggles of the Santiago II Neighbourhood of El Alto,Bolivia

This article analyses how relocated miners in the Santiago II neighbourhood of El Alto reframed their histories and their memories of struggle and organisation in the mining camps. It focuses on the ways in which residents organised the neighbourhood and how these histories and memories rose to the political surface during the time of crisis in October 2003.     

Studies in War-time Organisation: (6) East African Command.

This is an abridgement of a lecture which Gen. Platt gave onthe 31st October at a combined meeting with the Royal EmpireSociety. It has been included in the series on wartime organisationbecause the East Africa Command is possibly the most remarkableexample of the impact of war in the whole of the African Continent.Gen. Platt was, of course, G.O.C., 1941–44.

Zusammenfassung Die Relevanz einer Theorie für die Gegenwart ergibt sich nicht aus dem, was an ihr heute noch „stimmen“ mag. Ihre Aktualit?t besteht in dem, was wir, von ihr angeregt, heute anders und neu denken müssen. Tocquevilles „Aktualit?t“ bestimmt sich entsprechend daraus, dass wir das von ihm ausgehende Forschungsprogramm der Suche nach den gesellschaftlichen Grundlagen der Demokratie durch eines der Untersuchung von Grenzen und Erweiterungsm?glichkeiten von Partizipation ersetzen.
