Shi Lianzhen, a 79-year-old villager from rural Beijing, has been suffering from coronary heart disease and myocardial irffarction. On October 15, 2003, she unexpectedly received 10,064 yuan (US$1,215) in subsidies for her diseases from the local government department in charge of rural co-operative medical care. This old female farmer, without any income source, was so excited that she couldn't put her feeling into words. For the first time in their life, Chinese farmers can enjoy medical care insurance like those wage workers in dries, when their health fails them and their lives are in the menace of death.  相似文献

Lines of Life
My first experience of standing in a line for public medical care was when I was a baby in my mother's arm. So it was actually she who stood in the line so that I could get the free vaccination for measles and some other diseases. I remember it even after decades because it was painful. The medical worker made two incisions on the arm and a lot of the kids started bawling in shocked protest.  相似文献

Since a critical report on China's medical system reform was issued in mid-2005, it has become a major bone of contention. In April 2007, the State Council, China's cabinet, decided that from this year, economically developed provinces should single out one or two cities to experiment with the urban basic medical insurance system that focuses on serious diseases. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health invited seven research institutions to independently work out medical reform schemes. Ministry sources said that the finalized scheme would come into effect later this year. But will these efforts help to ease the problem of high medical expenses in China? And is it true that current problems of China's medical system lie in the "over marketization" as some experts have pointed out? Professor Cai Jiangnan, from the School of Economics, Fudan University, and Professor Zhou Qiren, from the China Center for Economic Research, Peking University, put forward their different views on this issue, based on their long-term research of China 's medical system reform.  相似文献

The Fisherman's Garden was constructed during the Sung Dynasty and was rebuilt at the time of the Qing Dynasty in 1766. Medical and health work constitutes the prerequisite to protection of the people's right to safety of lives and health. Over the past decades, the Chinese Government has spared no effort in this regard and, as a result, the Chinese people's health has significantly improved. In the nationwide fight against the SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) epidemic in the first half of 2003, the Government placed the health of the Chinese people and the safety of their lives above everything else. With a huge input of human, financial and material resources, the country won a decisive victory over the epidemic. Following is the full text of an interview by Human Rights with Gao Qiang, executive vice-minister of the Ministry of Health, on China's medical and health work and how it is related to protection of human rights.  相似文献
