Exhibition Highlights Development of Human Rights in China——An interview with Professor Dong Yunhu, vice-president and secretary-general of China Society for Human Rights Studies

An exhibition on human rights in China was held in the Cultural Palace of Ethnic Groups, Beijing, November 17-26,2006, jointly by the Information Office of the State Council, China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) and China Human Rights Development Fund. The exhibition attracted more than 10,000 visitors from in and outside the country and aroused much media attention. Following is an interview by our reporter with Prof. Dong Yunhu, vice-president and secretary-general of the CSHRS, on the exhibition.

China Urges Fair Play in Village Elections

China＇s central authorities issued a circular in Beijing on May 30, 2009, urging candidates to practice fair play in direct elections of village heads amid complaints of bribery and other dirty tricks to win votes. On March 30. 2004, the Information Office of the State Council of China issued a white paper entitled Progress in China's Human Rights Cause in 2003. This is the seventh white paper ever published by the Office to expound China's human rights conditions and its views since 1991, when it first issued Human Rights in China. Based on solid facts, the latest Chinese white paper on human rights, as well as the previous ones, elaborates convincingly the efforts made by the Chinese government to promote and protect human rights and progress in China's human rights conditions, refuting the alleged "China's backsliding in human rights" made up by the US government.     

What the 2020 Plan Really Means
