正Not too long ago, the idea of migrating from Europe to China for work would have seemed remote or even bizarre. Today, it seems a trend on the rise among Westerners unable to find jobs in recession-ridden home countries. A few weeks ago, I became one of the many young Europeans moving to Beijing to try to seize professional opportunities unimaginable back home.  相似文献

For years suffering from hypertension, Mrs. Zhang, now in her 60s, is a frequent visitor to Beijing Dewai Community Hospital in her neighborhood. "I feel too painstaking to go to a 'big hos-pital,'" she says. "Buses are always overcrowded and slow, not suitable for people like me. Besides, community-based medical institutions charge less for treatment of the same diseases." In China, a "big hospital" is a medical institution large in size and fully equipped, in many cases staffed by some of the most reputed medical experts locally or nationwide. Meanwhile, community-based hospitals and clinics are often referred to as "small hospitals."  相似文献

正"Contemporary Chinese art has become too much about contemporary Chinese life. Why should we deal only with what we see on the surface? In traditional Chinese art, meaning is not always on the surface;it involves the imagination and ideas."LIKE most followers of contemporary Chinese artists who have come to prominence over the past 10 to 15 years,I have identified certain ones by subject or style  相似文献

It's one o'clock on a clear night, one of those rare occasions in Beijing when the weather is neither too hot nor too cold. I decide to get some exercise and walk home after a nice relaxing dinner with friends. As I'm strolling past the south gate of Ritan Park, I notice the lights are still on at a place I haven't seen before. 'Zing' it reads. I try the door, thinking that one more for the road won't hurt. Cautiously making my way past a row of tables flanking a row of gargoyles to my right, I am greeted by a charming  相似文献

正Having won the presidential race, will Donald Trump keep his campaign promises and get tough on China,or will he be guided by pragmatism? It’s too early to determine whether Trump will adhere to the China-U.S.relationship during Obama’s term.Hopefully such a relationship will proceed, and cooperation will continue to dominate future China-U.S.relations.  相似文献

China's 24th expedition to Antarctica braved the risk of pirate attack on its mission to the pole"I wish I could have a more relaxing time to appreciate the scenery as the sea is so quiet and beautiful, but I have to stand guard for pirates who are often seen around the equator,"said Cao Shuowei on his travel log on November 20.Cao is a member of China's 24th Antarctic expedition that kicked off a week ago from Shanghai. The red exploration ship Xue Long,or Snow Dragon, carrying 91 members of the 188-strong expedition team and 40 crew members, left Waigaoqiao Dock in Shanghai on November 12.The rest of the explorers will arrive in Antarctica by air.  相似文献

<正>It was by no means a coincidence that I encountered these nuns. When I met them for the first time, they had just moved to Qiongmao Temple in Guide County,Qinghai Province, and I was new there too.Living very close to where they stayed,I would often visit them for a chat.Without an intrusive camera on that first visit,I looked closely at their young and vigorous faces, while they  相似文献

Big Fish
THERE is a big fish in the Mirror Lake–30 to 40meters long, they say.Though not as famous as the monster in Kanas Lake in Xinjiang, the news has spread far and wide.Is it a promotional stunt or media hype?I don’t give a hoot.I am just telling what I heard, and I have nothing to do with any media. But on the other hand...My uncle,a retired lumberjack, lives by the Mirror Lake.He used to work for a transport company, pulling logs from nearby mountains to the shore, where they  相似文献

Arc Mouse The Arc Mouse is for those who nd the desk just that little bit too far away. Everyone knows how hard it is to control the direction of the arrow on a computer screen when the mouse is resting on legs, laps, or sofa armrests.  相似文献

Having visited Tilanqiao Prison, I began to feel much better, with all the uneasiness and fears with "imnates" and "prisons" gone. On the way to Qingpu Prison I had learned that it is of a new model, quite civilized. The prison is a complex of white buildings surrounded by a wide stretch of garden, If not for the four Chinese characters "Qing Pu Jian Yu" on the gates, no one could guess that it is a prison. It is more like a university. From the production area to the living area, from the teaching building to the medical  相似文献

Hoary Humor
There was a man who was slow by nature. In winter he was sitting around the fireplace with someone else. He saw that the edge of the other's garment was on fire and so he said: "There is something. 1 have noticed it for quite some time now. I would like to say it, but I am afraid you are too panicky. If I don't speak up, I fear you may be hurt very badly. So, should I speak up? Should I not speak up?" When the other one  相似文献

Qipao Comeback
正WHEN I was about 13 years old,a shop called Shaolin opened up in my hometown in southeast England. At that time,I had no idea what or where the name Shaolin came from–my friends and I would pronounce it"shay-oh lin"–but after my first visit to the shop,I was certain it would become a firm favorite on our list of places-to-hang-out on a Saturday afternoon.Shaolin was an Aladdin’s cave of Chinese goods. On entering, you were fi rst struck by atmospheric, dim lighting and the heady smell of incense. Then, the sounds:A CD of bamboo flute music accompanied by sounds of nature, and the tinkle of wind chimes evoked a sense of calm that made you want to stop and browse. For me,these sensory experiences became synonymous with"the Orient,"and  相似文献

IN February 2011 while on a business trip to Wuhu in Anhui Province, I took a taxi to visit my aunt there. I asked the driver if he had noticed any change to the city since the start of the Wanjiang City Belt project. "Yes, of course," he answered eagerly. "More outsiders are coming in, and fewer locals are leaving." When I got out, he added, "The taxi fare got cheaper too. Only six yuan now!"  相似文献

LETTERS
The topic of"dreams" reminds me of a text by the late Chinese writer Shi Tiesheng who was paralyzed when he was 21, in whichhe elaborated on his devotion to sports. He loved track and field the most, more than writing, and his favorite star was Carl Lewis whom, with a strong body and super speed, he regarded as the luckiest man on earth. Shi once thought that he would do anything to have Lewis' physique and vigor in another life, if there were one. But observ- ing the athlete's rise and fall after a doping scandal, he gained fresh understanding of success, happiness and life in general. He said his dream was to have a healthy body, a beautiful soul and life wisdom. While acknowledging that many think one should not be too greedy or ambitious, Shi's overriding belief was that everyone has the right to dream big, and to look forward to the best in the world.  相似文献

Staying overnight for one evening, one weekend, one week, one month or even one entire year,as a foreign student at a host country’s home is what we refer to as Home Stay. The 1960s and 1970s were decades in which China and Africa began a friendship that was built around Beijing's political backing and developmental aid to a crop of emerging indepen- dent African nations. In the 1980s and 1990s,China shifted its focus by devoting more efforts to establishing a rapport with big powers and neighboring countries to create a sound environment for self-development.Since the turn of the cen- tury, however, the African continent has been rediscovered by China as a strategic partner in many areas. As the Chinese market has flourished,so too has the African economy, which maintained a growth momentum in recent years and has achieved a modest prosperity rarely seen in its history. He Fan,Deputy Director of the Research Center on International Finance affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences shared his comments about this partnership on blog on the eve of the New Year.  相似文献

Less restricted by social mores and institutionalized authority, the Internet is a democratic and impartial organ of law and order far more effective than newspapers or television. In the real world, not everyone with an opinion can be heard, hence the “silent majority.“ But on the Internet, they can speak, be listened to and find motivation to act.  相似文献
