This article investigates the extent to which public higher education institutions participate in state-level arts policy through a history of selected budgets and a textual analysis of performing arts presenting centers at public higher education institutions in Virginia. Evidence from this research suggests that the arts policy field is altered by the emergence of public higher education institutions as policy actors. The findings have financial and decision-making implications for arts policy makers, university administrators, and arts agencies as the participation of public higher education institutions affords new opportunities and challenges for the state encouragement of the arts.  相似文献

Currently, there is no common understanding of categorizing, conceptualizing, and measuring consumption motives in the performing arts. Study one presents the results of forty-seven semi-structured, in-depth interviews and deepens the understanding of consumption motives. A new framework consisting of cultural and social motives is introduced. This framework is tested in the second study. Here, a quantitative instrument is developed. The results of the principal components analysis refine the framework and demonstrate the following consumption motives: cultural aesthetics (with two dimensions: artistic value and enjoyment of beauty), cultural relaxation, cultural stimulation, social bonding, social attraction, social distinction, and social duty.  相似文献

Arts education in the United States, especially in public schools, has been neglected and its public funding has decreased. This is partly due to the difference in the conception of public education policies and the arts. The theory of economic goods and an analysis of two current education policies demonstrate that public education is treated as a public good that is needed by all people, and therefore funded with tax dollars. Because the arts are common goods that different people value in their own terms, education in the arts is treated as nonessential and funded sporadically in public school settings. Based on the theory of the commons, the author suggests that nonprofit arts organizations are equipped to deal with the common good and diverse nature of the arts and can provide sustainable arts education that fills the gap of arts education in public schools.  相似文献

高等教育社会捐赠的背后,体现着一定的价值观,那就是"努力于共福利的创造".近年来我国富裕人士逐渐增多,但社会对高等教育的捐赠却步履缓慢,需要我们在反思传统的同时,借鉴西方国家尤其是美国的经验,促进相应的制度创新与正确导向社会舆论.高校也应转变观念,建立与捐赠者之间良好的合作关系,并在内部建立完善的工作机制.  相似文献

高等教育大众化源于社会经济发展的强力推动和教育市场巨大潜力的释放,它反映了社会平等的思潮和人民群众的精神需求,凸显了社会心理因素的综合作用,也是我国高等教育领域与时俱进的现实表现。在从精英教育到大众教育的转换过程中,演绎着与从计划经济到市场经济转轨相适应的高等教育的范式转换,这种范式转换表现在招生规模、办学体制、质量标准诸方面。即从政府行为转变到市场行为,从单一政府办学格局转变到多元化办学格局,从精英教育质量范式转变到大众教育质量范式。在这一转变过程中,我们的思维范式也必须转换。  相似文献

As arts entrepreneurship programs emerge in higher education, many remain idiosyncratic because of a lack of oversight by accreditation organizations. This diversity has spawned a number of philosophical and curricular trajectories in these programs; these different programs reflect the unique microcultures of theater, art, and music units. What has been lacking is a broad understanding of curricular and program development practices and techniques.

This article is the result of a national study funded by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and aims to outline best practices in arts entrepreneurship education and to gain some understanding about the curricular structure, interest in, and growth of these efforts. After interviewing decision makers and students about the topic, it is clear the interest in arts entrepreneurship education is strong, widespread, and rapidly growing.  相似文献
