Making Electoral Amends

An amendment to the Electoral Law of the National People's Congress and Local People's Congresses of the People's Republic of China providing equal legislative representation to rural and urban people was ratifled at the closing meeting of the Third Session of the 11th National People's Congress(NPC),China's top legislature,on March 14.Li Lin,Director of the Law Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.elaborated on the amendment and outlined its effect on the Chinese people during an interview with Beijing Review reporter Yin Pumin.Some excerpts follow:

CPAFFC President Lin Songtian addresses International Youth Painting Invitational Exhibition

<正>On Dec 26, the International Youth Painting Invitational Exhibition — “Best Wishes for the Winter Olympics” — opened at the China National Film Museum. MIRACLE RESCUE

Atotal of 115 workers had been miraculously retrieved from the flooded Wangjialing Coal Mine in north China's Shanxi Province by the afternoon of April 5, after being trapped underground for more than a week. "It is a miracle in the history of Chinese mining rescues," said Luo Lin, Director of the State Administration of Work Safety, who stood waiting at the pit entrance. "The trapped miners displayed an unwavering determination to survive for eight days and eight nights."
