I came across an album of photos put online by a charity group last year and was appalled by the inhumane condition of some of the poorest in this country. It is hard to believe that in a time when I and people around me complain about bad traffic or plan summer vaca- tions in Europe for our kids, some people deep in the mountains of Guizhou Province are still struggling to fill their stomachs and their children  相似文献

In a statement issued on the 2004 World Human Rights Day, Ms. Louse Arbour, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, described human rights education as a strategy for attainment of "human rights for all," as a basic means for developing a universal culture of human rights, as an instrument for promoting equality and involvement of the people in decision-mak-ing under democratic mechanisms, and as an investment to prevent infringements upon human rights and to ward off conflicts of violence. It should be noted that so much importance attached by UN human rights organ to human rights education epitomizes the empowering characters of human rights education and the functions it performs in the global human rights system.  相似文献

Foreword The year 2004 is an important year for China in building a well-off society in an all-round way. It is also a year that saw all-round progress in China's human rights undertakings. In that year, China expressly stated in its Constitution that "the state respects and safeguards human rights," further manifesting the essential requirements of the socialist system. The Chinese government pressed forward on promoting administration according to law in an all-round way. It promulgated the document Outline of Full Implementation for Promoting Administration according to Law, which  相似文献

On March 14, 2004, a proposed amendment to the Constitution was adopted by the Second Session of the Tenth National People's Congress (NPC), which stipulates clearly that "the state respects and safeguards human fights." This is the first time that the concept of "human rights" has been included in the Constitution—a major event in the development of China's democratic constitutionalism and political civilization, and an important milestone in human rights progress in China.  相似文献

The future of a country and society belongs to children and youngsters. As a primary school teacher, I keenly feel the need to educate our children in human rights, so that they will develop in an all-round way, morally, intellectually and physically. Over the past few yeas, I have tried to incorporate education in human rights into activities in  相似文献

Ⅰ. Getting help from lawyers and its realization according to international standards The right to defense for a person involving in a law suit is a universal human right. Article 11 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides: "Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defence." This means (1) the right to defence is a basic human right due to all persons charged with a penal offence; (2) it is a basic requirement for the principle of presumption of innocence and fair trial; and (3) the realization of the right needs practical and effective guarantees.  相似文献

Peace, security, harmonious development and human rights are closely related. Firstly, peace and security are premise and precondition for the insur-ance of human rights. It is obvious that when human beings continue to be threat-ening by wars, conflicts and chaos, their right to life is faint and insecure, and other human rights would not be fully respected or protected. On the other hand, peace and security are foundation for everyone to pursue his or her own objectives. In other words, in a society where peace and secu-rity are maitained, people will have oppor-tunity to enjoy their human rights and to affirm their own ego.  相似文献

What is summarized as"harmony is of paramount importance" is a most prominent philosophical approach embraced by China's Confucian culture. This is an extension of the approach summarized as "the people are of paramount importance." It calls for harmonious human relations, obliging one to respect others' rights and interests while protecting the rights and interests of one's own. Harmony as a philosophical approach manifests itself, in many ways, in the realm of human rights in China today. To name just a few: the country's political system of multi-party cooperation under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, harmony that prevails between different religions in the country, and the country's call for international dialogue and cooperation to promote the human rights cause. As a fine Chinese tradition, this philosophical approach is being carried forward.  相似文献

The US Sate Department has always professed to be a "Judge of Human Rights in the World." Year upon year, it issues country-specific human rights reports, accusing more than 190 countries and regions, including China, of their human fights conditions. Yet it tums a blind eye to its own. It is just behind the "Statue of Liberty'" that hides serious infringements upon human rights.  相似文献

Not Worth the Hassle A DVD is exported for US $32. It cost US $13 to make, and a fee of US $18 is payable to the foreign company that holds the patent. It might say "Made in China," but a simple calculation shows that the Chinese manufacturer makes just US $1 profit for his efforts. MP3 makers fare little better, with average profits of US $1.5 per unit after costs and patent fees. "This is a common phe- nomenon in the Chinese manufacturing sector these days," says Liu Qingfeng, CEO…  相似文献

With China's economic boom have come a host of new occupations not seen before in the country. One such job category, that of professional charity fundraiser,on the face of it,seems a more than worthwhile addition to a country where the many needy can benefit in volumes from profit-reeking enterprises and the rise in nouveau riche. Yet when the Hunan Charity Federation initiated a big fundraising campaign, giving financial incentives to volunteer fundraisers,it became a major bone of contention, focusing on the ethics of charity institutes and the con- troversial"rewards"for funds collected.  相似文献

CHINESE people often derisively refer to the rapidly prepared offerings of McDonald's and KFC as "junk food." Yet it was these two fast food giants that made the common people of China aware of the corporate social responsibilities (CSR) undertaken by transnational companies. When McDonald's and KFC entered China in the 1990s, public toilets were scarce and the facilities in hotels and restaurants were not for public use. But McDonald's and KFC allowed anyone at all. whether or not they were customers, to use their washrooms. The McDonald's and KFC logos consequently have particular significance to members of the Chinese general public, whether or not they eat there. A similar public spiritedness is now being displayed by a number of Chinese enterprises that have begun to make their washroom facilities open to the public. On rainy days, signs can also be seen in certain stores assuring shoppers that they are: "Welcome to take shelter from rain." It would appear, therefore, that corporate social responsibility, a concept introduced by transnational companies, is being taken on by Chinese enterprises.  相似文献

As an educator, I have been keen on human rights education in Chinese schools. Tbrough visits to schools ranging from those at the primary level to schools of higher learning, I have found that education of the young in human rights is fairly developed in the country and conducted in a comprehensive, scientific manner. We are justified to say that a complete system of human rights education is already in place in the country.  相似文献

A baby boom in China after 2005 means that young parents are now locked in fierce competition for sought-after kindergarten slots. When a reputed kindergarten opens for new student registration it is now common for parents with children of eligible age,3 years old,to queue for hours and even days outside the front gate.Armed with food, tents and quilts, parents are willing to sleep rough in order to land a spot for their children. In one extreme case, the parents of more than 100 children camped out all night in front of a kindergarten in May in Guangzhou, capital of southern Guangdong Province, despite torrential rains.  相似文献
