Survey of American (USA) Gasolines (2008)

The regulations for gasoline's content vary depending on the time of year and physical location within the United States while the refinery and distribution system mixes product batches; this results in variability of content. ASTM E1618 requires both the aromatic and alkane EIP patterns of gasoline to compare with references. A survey was conducted by collecting gasoline from Florida to Oregon, from 85 to 93 octane. Samples were analyzed in accordance with ASTM E1618 in various states of evaporation. The range of differences found in the 90% evaporated alkane EIPs is presented and showed a continuum of response when the n-alkane response was compared with the branched alkane response. Similarly, the ratio of the alkane EIP to the aromatic EIP also showed a continuum of response at the 90% evaporated state. Gasoline samples with unusual characteristics are also discussed.

Family (Law) Assemblages: New Modes of Being (Legal)

This article advances a new model for family law to address emerging non‐conventional family formations, particularly between parents and children. We contend that the conventional model of kinship categories as static, predefined statuses should be replaced with a model whereby the state accommodates kinship categories the law users themselves produce within their fluid and nomadic family assemblages and that they actively revise when negotiating state recognition. We claim that this model would better reflect and govern the emerging kinship system. We corroborate this by drawing on insights from family research that takes issue with the fragmentation of kinship, particularly the fragmentation of motherhood. We then elaborate on a conception of state recognition as the capacity to trace connections and identify normative frameworks, one that valorizes the self‐organizing force of social practices but at the same time holds onto the filtering role of the state.     

Detection of diatoms in bone marrow (femur) of nondrowned (author's transl)

Diatoms in the bone marrow (femur) of 16 nondrowned bodies were detected by a modern method of ultrafiltration. The rate of diatoms were found to be in the same range as in cases of drowning. The results deny the proof of diatoms even in bone marrow to be useful any longer for the diagnosis of death from drowning.

Temperature-dependent development of Ophyra aenescens (Wiedemann, 1830) and Ophyra capensis (Wiedemann, 1818) (Diptera, Muscidae)

The influence of rearing temperature on the development rates of two "dump flies" Ophyra aenescens (Wiedemann, 1830) and Ophyra capensis (Wiedemann, 1818) is analysed. The development times of these species are determined. Flies were reared at three constant temperatures (17+/-1, 24+/-1 and 30+/-1 degrees C) with a photoperiod of 12:12 and at a relativity moisture of 75-95%. The minimum duration for each development stages, from eggs to pupae and from eggs to adult emergence of O. aenescens and O. capensis are reported. The development rate increases in both species as the rearing temperature rises. A temperature-dependent development model is calculated for each species. The larval and total development of these two species can be estimated if the environmental temperature is between 17 and 30 degrees C. Compared to O. aenescens, O. capensis has a higher threshold of development and a longer larval development time.     

Lewis typing of human bloodstains by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using monoclonal anti-Le(a) and anti-Le(b)

The Lewis blood grouping of human dried bloodstains could be determined by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using monoclonal anti-Le(a) and anti-Le(b) antibodies with an avidin-biotin complex (ABC). The bloodstains aged 1 year were used as samples, and approximately 1 mg of the stains was enough to type each Lewis antigen reliably by this method. The Lewis substances of 106 individual stains were correctly typed regardless of their ABO blood group system.     

AmpF(l)STR(R) Identifiler(R) Plus试剂盒快速直接PCR扩增初探

目的 探索可应用于法医实践的快速直接PCR扩增方法,以缩短扩增时间,提高STR分型速率.方法 联合运用AmpF(l)STR(R) Identifiler(R) Plus试剂盒与TaKaRa快速PCR检测试剂构建快速直接PCR体系,以FTA血卡为模板,采用优化后的扩增程序在快速PCR仪上进行扩增,分型结果与常规直接扩增方法相比较.结果 AmpF(l)fSTR(R) Identifiler(R) Plus试剂盒与TaKaRa的快速PCR检测试剂针对血卡的联合扩增,所得STR分型结果与常规方法一致,扩增用时由常规直接扩增所需的175 min缩短为55 min.结论 采用快速直接PCR方法进行扩增,可得到与常规直接扩增一致的DNA分型,扩增时间明显缩短,DNA分型速率大幅提高.     

精神卫生法中司法鉴定的若干问题——评《精神卫生法（草案）》有关司法鉴定的规定

《精神卫生法（草案）》征求意见是我国卫生法治的一大进步，其有关精神障碍司法鉴定的内容还存在与鉴定规律、证据制度、诉讼制度相矛盾、冲突的地方，需要在立法中进一步完善与调整，保障其与现有的司法鉴定制度相衔接。     

Differentiation of methylenedioxybenzylpiperazines (MDBPs) and methoxymethylbenzylpiperazines (MMBPs) By GC-IRD and GC-MS

The substituted benzylpiperazines, 3,4-methylenedioxybenzylpiperazine (3,4-MDBP), its regioisomer 2,3-methylenedioxybenzylpiperazine (2,3-MDBP) and four isobaric ring substituted methoxymethylbenzylpiperazines (MMBP) have almost identical mass spectra. Perfluoroacylation of the secondary amine nitrogen of these isomeric piperazines gave mass spectra with differences in relative abundance of some fragment ions. However, the spectra did not yield any unique fragments for specific identification of one isomer to the exclusion of the other compounds. Gas chromatography coupled with infrared detection (GC-IRD) provides direct confirmatory data for the structural differentiation between the six isomers. The mass spectra in combination with the vapor phase infrared spectra provide for specific confirmation of each of the isomeric piperazines. The underivatized and perfluoroacyl derivative forms of the ring substituted benzylpiperazines were resolved on the polar stationary phase Rtx-200.     

Population genetics of ACTBP2 (SE33) in Western Saxony (Germany)

In order to apply a useful STR system we performed a population study in Western Saxony (Germany). The allele distribution was investigated in a sample of 431 unrelated adults. In addition, 170 families from routine paternity cases were examined for the presence of meiotic mutations, and two mutations were observed.
