正LIN Zhixin, head of Honghua Concentric Masonic and president of Hong Hua Children’s Home in China’s Taiwan,is distinct from other philanthropists and charitable workers. This is partly due to his focus on vulnerable groups not included under the government budget, and partly because Honghua Concentric Masonic funds come from self-motivated voluntary donations, rather than governmental aid or appeals to the general public.  相似文献

THE topic of China's policy of reform and opening-up is invariably associated with Deng Xiaoping, the famous politician and great state leader who initiated China's transformation from a rigid planned economy to a free economic system. Deng Xiaoping is not only considered to be the father of China's reform and opening-up, but also credited with implementing reforms that laid the foundation for the breathtaking economic success that we can see in China today.  相似文献

Drinking Tea is said to spread to Japan from China in the 6th century. Every step in Japanese tea ceremony is part of old and graceful ritual.Oolong tea is enjoying a favourable market in Japan and has become an indispensable soft drink for Japanese in pop-top cans. China's Oolong was first chipped to Japan in large volume in 1981. The 1980s witnessed an astonishing spread of Oolong tea in the market, partly stemming from the belief of Japanese women that Oolong tea is good for keeping fit and dieting.  相似文献

SPEAKING to Geng Yanbo, the new mayor of Datong, it is difficult not to be swept up by his enthusiasm for the history of his city. And it is that enthusiasm which a majority of the city's residents agree also accounts for Geng's unique approach to modernizing Datong while preserving its long cultural heritage. Looking about, the evidence of that commitment is everywhere, from the newly opened shops to ihe freshly paved roads. Since being transferred in March from Taiyuan to Datong to become acting mayor and deputy secretary of the Municipal Committee of the CPC, Geng has acted resolutely to turn this industrious coal town into a cultural showpiece.  相似文献

"Employment For college graduates is a matter of supreme importance. It decides an individual's future and the nation's economic development as well," Premier Wen Jiabao remarked during a visit to the Human Resources Center of Lianhu District, Xi'an City on June 5. Surrounded by college graduates coming to the center to look for jobs, the premier assured them that the government is taking all possible measures to get them employed. Statistics from the Ministry oi Human Resources and Social Security show that approximately 4.8 million college graduates from the previous two years have strayed out of employed status. Last July over 6 million more graduates left their campuses, further straining a labor market already blighted by the global economic meltdown. It's predicted that the job outlook will remain grim for China's college graduates for several years.  相似文献

I was extremely gratified to read in the Sci-tech Info feature of January 2008 is- sue that so many people are joining in the effort toward sustainable development, China is the world's biggest developing country with the largest population, But its per capita resources are far from sufficient, China's fast economic growth emphasizes the conflict between de- velopment and the need to conserve the environment. Under current circumstances it is imperative that all of society takes precautionary measures. Transforming the pattern of economic growth is a fundamental matter of extreme urgency. We must deal appropriately with the relationships among economic and population growth, resource utilization and protection of the ecological environment, Building a harmonious society is a major issue of common concern that has direct bearing on the national economy and people's livelihood,  相似文献

Juvenile criminal justice is a reflection of the new approach to children and criminal penalty. The juvenile justice reform is onginated from the changes in criminal penalty and the approach to children. When criminal penalty is no longer pure revenge, education and individualization dominate criminal penalty; when children are regarded as being different from adults and should be treated differently, the new approach to children is taking shape and made more scientific. The orientation of juvenile criminal justice reform is to differentiate the juvenile crimes from adult crimes, set up case heating organizations, methods and treatment measures that are appropriate with the psychology of children. This paper will give an analysis of the current reform of the juvenile criminal justice in conjunction with the development of juvenile justice systems of other countries and probe into the orientation and development trend of the reform of China's juvenile criminal justice.  相似文献

THE Chinese government's decision to battle harmful information online through the direct installation of software filters on PCs, got a somewhat tepid response from hardware manufacturers and met with outright skepticism from the media and netizens. There is doubt the package that is meant to sort out and reject socially unacceptable sites will actually work, so the government is taking some criticism about what many regard as an error of judgment.  相似文献

THE eyes and ears of the country are turned every March to the annual sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and increasingly so is worldwide atten- tion. What are the sessions in the eyes of foreign joumaists? What's different this year and what trends do they see emerging? Zhao Lixing, counselor with the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has confirmed that over 800 journalists representing overseas media showed up this year, and from a staggering list of topics, questions about people's well-being top their interview lists. The domestic media has the same concerns.  相似文献

CHINA'S stepped-up commitment to expanding her energy infrastructure is official. Premier Wen Jiabao, in astatement at the 2009 National People's Congress, redefined the direction of the country's energy strategy and development goals, clarifying that nuclear, hydroelectric, wind and solar power are all the focus of new projects. China's green energy campaign is unprecedented both on the industrial and legal fronts, and not surprising, since the country is one of the world's major energy consumers.  相似文献

On February 28, 2008, the State Council Information Office published a white paper entitled China's Efforts and Achievements in Promoting the Rule of Law. This document is the first white paper published by the government on China's rule of law. It contains eight chapters and six appendices to review China's achievements on the road to practicing the rule of law in a compre- hensive way, and to expound the official Chinese policy and position on this is- sue. IN the vocabulary of the Chinese, "Bethune" is the ultimate synonym for the noble figure.Norman Bethune's reputation was made in the anti-Japanese war period when the Canadian physician trudged the frontiers under heavy gunfire to treat the great many Chi- nese wounded. Adding virtual martyrdom to his heroic qualities, Bethune eventually died in the anti-fascist battlefield, from exhaustion and complications contracted from surgery. "What kind of spirit is this," asked Mao Zedong in his famous 1939 article "In memory of Norman Bethune," "that makes a foreigner selflessly adopt the cause of the Chinese people's liberation as his own?"  相似文献

THE Suzhou River of Shanghai assumes many kinds of importance to the city's residents. From the opening of its port in 1843, Shanghai's urban district sprawled along this river from east to west. At that time, foreigners residing in Shanghai knew that this river led to Suzhou, and silk and tea flowed along it from the hinterland by ship; thus its name - the Suzhou River. Originating from the Taihu Lake, and crossing the Jiangnan section of the Grand Canal, it also in fact flows through Wujiang, Wuxian, Kunshan, Jiading and Qingpu, then joins the Huangpu River at Shanghai's Waibaidu Bridge.  相似文献

Extinction is irreversible. Once a species is gone, it's not coming back (,barring some Jurassic Park-like scientific development). Extinction has wide-ranging ramifications for the ecosystem and biodiversity. Many species are affected by the disappearance of one. Sometimes the effects are foreseeable - most of the time they are not. Ensuring that all spe- cies have the chance to thrive free of human interference is paramount to ecological conservation, and doing so will also benefit humanity. These are the core messages of a recent interview with Zhao Shucong, director of the State Forestry Administration that leads China's wildlife protection efforts. Excerpts from the interview are below:  相似文献

The women's liberation movement in China started after the first opium war and it took shape with the aim of protecting the race and salvaging the country. Doubtlessly, the emergence of modern feminism opened the precedent in the theory of women's liberation in China and exerted a profound and far-reaching influence on women's liberation afterwards. But we must face up to the fact that there was some traps or misunderstanding of modern feminism, which were unfavorable for realizing women's rights and such influence was long, so much so that till today we are still seeing its existence. It is, therefore, necessary to have a full reflection of modem feminism, unveil the original meaning of women's rights and make women's rights return to human rights in order to make the development of women's fights continue.  相似文献
