The Chinese Dream and Human Rights in Contemporary China: A Legal-political Perspective

During the revolutionary times, the Chinese people had fought for national independence, whereas now they are devoted to free and comprehensive development. The transition from the former to the latter is a fundamental characteristic of human rights development in contemporary China. Standing at this juncture in history, human development in China and the dream of national rejuvenation in a globalized world can actually be interpreted as a "human rights dream" shared by each and every individual in China.

Human fights are great, and respect for and protection of them have been a long-cherished common aspiration and pursuit of the peoples of all nations in the world. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, issued 61 years ago, proclaims the protection of human fights to be ＂a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.＂     

Recent Development of Human Rights Protection in China

Since 1949, China has achieved great progress in human rights protection. We also experienced some big setbacks such as the Cultural Revolution. China redirected itself to a proper course of healthy human rights development from 1978. But during the time of 1983 to 1990, our concept of human rights fell behind world civilization greatly; the mainstream concept of human rights in China was that "the term of human rights is a pure slogan of western society."
